Resident Evil 7 will support 1080p resolution and 60 FPS on Xbox One, HDR on Xbox One S

Upcoming first-person Xbox One horror game Resident Evil 7 will achieve visual parity with its PS4 counterpart.

Notoriously, many multiplatform games have failed to reach resolution parity between the PS4 and Xbox One, with Xbox usually missing out. The situation has been steadily improving in recent years, however, with more and more developers utilizing dynamic scaling to offset performance issues caused by intense scenes. Thankfully, Resident Evil 7 will be among those titles properly optimized for Xbox One hardware.




Masachika Kawata recently confirmed that Resident Evil 7 will be 1080p on Xbox One, running at a frame rate of 60 FPS. Additionally, RE7 will support HDR color ranges for those of you playing on Xbox One S.

Resident Evil 7 will attempt to take the series back to its gritty roots, focusing on horror gameplay over action. RE7 will reinstate exploration, key hunting, puzzles, scarce resources, and harsh combat from the franchise's early days, ditching Resident Evil 5 and 6's hard shift to casual action-oriented gameplay.

RE7's protagonist isn't a hardened mutant zombie slayer, nor is he a military commando or ex-cop. Ethan Winters is a regular citizen hunting his missing wife. His investigations lead him to a run-down, seemingly abandoned mansion in the Southern United States. As you might imagine, things go downhill from there.


Taking cues from the likes of Amnesia, the ill-fated 'P.T.' Silent Hills project and horror movies like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Resident Evil 7 could prove itself to be the best in the series for years. We only have to wait until January 24th, 2017 to find out for sure.

Resident Evil 7 will launch on PS4 and Steam while supporting cloud save syncing across the Windows 10 Store and Xbox One versions of the game. Capcom haven't announced whether they will support Xbox Play Anywhere, yet, but it doesn't seem too likely!

I got to go work a night shift in three hours, but at least Xbox Live has been up and running the whole day :P Wife got me an Arsenal FC stadium jacket, how cool is that? Now to wait for summer when I can actually go jogging wearing it without freezing to death.
