Well, since there's no longer an NDA, I can tell you all about my experience playing it.
As I said before, it was beautiful graphically and artistically, and they designed some pretty cool and unique characters for it. The writing on the missions was much what you'd expect from Fable as well, lots of British style comedy. You were grouped up with 3 other players and got sent into a mission against a 5th player. It was like a MOBA in alot of ways. Like a MOBA it was co-op focused. Like a MOBA, you started out with just a basic attack and 1 skill, and as you level up you unlock more of your characters skills. Like a MOBA, team composition was important, a good team needed 2 DPS, a tank, and a Healer. Gameplay as the villain was basically an RTS, you placed enemy units and traps with an overhead camera, and could occasionally launch a mortar attack. Strategy as the bad guy typically involved luring a hero into a trap where they'd be boxed in couldn't escape your mortar attack.
But, it had several issues. The missions were too long, they took a good 40 minutes to complete, so teammates would often quit outor go inactive before it was over, ruining your chances of winning. It took a good 10 minutes to unlock your character's 2nd skill, so for the first 10 minutes of the game you only had your basic attack and 1 skill which was kind of boring. There were balance issues. Because most of the story dialogue took place during combat, it was hard to concentrate on both the combat and the dialogue at the same time, so I missed most of the dialogue (Titanfall's MP based campaign had the same issue).
Honestly, I don't think Lionhead could have worked out all the issues even if they spent another year on it, so I can kind of understand why MS shut development down. What I find annoying though was MS shutting Lionhead themselves down. Why shut them down, they could have kept them and put them to work on a proper Fable 4 or Fable RPG reboot.
