Even if Anaconda is better than the PS5 MS should launch it at the same price as the PS5. I think that price will be $499.

I highly doubt MS will launch the Anaconda at a price over 499.  The reason is that at 599 or even 549, the Anaconda would have to be doing way more than just being the stronger console.  MS would have to combat Sony market and mind share which is huge at this point.  Just having the more powerful console will not make a dent if the games doesn't look an order above what the PS5 can deliver.  MS would have to be able to run all 3rd party games like 60FPS while Sony could only do 30.  It would need to be on that order of scale to launch at 550 to 599.

Personally I believe the 499 is the price point if Anaconda is a beast but then again MS may be on some other stuff and who knows.  I know they want to get their PC and Xbox divisions in line so maybe Anaconda will be closure to a PC then console and it will be on a totally different path.

Hmqgg said Lockhart isn't a streaming box FYI.

https://www.resetera.com/threads/xbox-game-studios-ot4-when-everyone-plays-we-all-win.94058/post-20039029

Then let us hope MS and 3rd party devs aim for 1080p on Lockhart, because 1080p max is the only way it won't hold back next-gen graphics. Let us also hope they aim for $250 or $300 on release, anything more would be a ripoff for 4 tflop, you can buy a 6 tflop XB1 X right now for as little as $370 on Amazon and it's not even Holiday 2019 yet, let alone Holiday 2020. Sure Lockhart will have better CPU, RAM, and storage than XB1 X, but to have any area where a next-gen console is weaker than a last-gen console just seems strange to me.

Honestly, MS should have just future-proofed XB1 X by giving it a Zen CPU and a small cache SSD to speed up load times. Lockhart should never have been a thing that was planned, XB1 X should have always been planned to become the entry-level next-gen console.

I believe we get way to much pent up on the TF numbers.  TF is only just a baseline in performance and not all TF equal the same thing when it comes to efficiently using every aspect of a piece of hardware.  I would say whichever system removes the most bottlenecks will come out as being the most powerful not necessarily how much TF each one has.  With out knowing how MS is building either Lockhart and Anaconda, we truly do not know if the 4TF Lockhart will make the 6TF X1X look slow and be able to compete successfully with the PS5 and it bigger brother.  Should be interesting to see how MS and Sony systems turn out once we can get true specs for each.

1080p in 2020 will be on its way out soon. Everything that were hearing about Lockhart just seems underwhelming. Hopefully Anaconda delivers at a similar price tot he PS5.

You're overestimating the 4K adoption rate I think. Right now probably less than 20% of gamers have 4k tv's or monitors. Will be middle of next-gen most likely before more than half of gamers have 4K tv's.

Well about 31% of US households own a 4k TV and last year 4K TVs made up 4/10th of all TV purchases. Within the first few years of next gen 1080p will become irrelevant.

lochart should be 300 why? because if its 1080p while ps4 pro is 400 in upscaled 4k, then when ps5 releases ps4 pro will be 350 dollars. and it'll be ps4 pro 4k upscale vs lochart 1080p also 350 dollars I rather buy ps4 pro than a beefed 1080p console if i had to choose which to buy?

I believe people forget that MS consoles has the same tech to do the upscaling to 4K just like the PS4 pro does.  It would be easy for MS to still aim for 4k with lockhart but of course it will not be 4k native but just upscaled just like the PS4.  From a number of technical reviews, the upscaled looks is pretty close or close enough which will allow the weaker console to still play with the big boys and keep the cheaper games happy.

4K will be the standard. I remember looking at TVs in Target and Walmart and being surprised at how cheap they were, also pretty much all of the Options there were all 4K.

I’m interested in getting Infinite Undiscovery, Resonance of Fate and Star Ocean on the 360 for my collection.

Anyone here ever play them? I would like to hear your thoughts on them to see if they are worth getting.

I played Infinite Undiscovery looooong ago and remember quite enjoying it.

Bought Star Ocean but pretty sure I never played it and I now have no idea where it is.

Infinite Undiscovery is a mess but it is nice to have in your collection.  Resonance of Fate can be difficult to get at the beginning but when you understand the gameplay it is worth it.   Star Ocean IV,  is the best one of this three titles except for horrible voice acting but you get used to it and you easily can spend 100+ hours with the game.  One small nitpick, it is the only game that really hurts because it is on multiple discs.  Item collecting in RPG's can be annoying ,  travel back to town then go back in the dungeoun and maybe the item will pop up,  it hurts that on the 360 you have to swap discs for some planets/towns while item collecting...X°X.

Thank you for your input, I have decided to put them on my list to buy. I’m still sad Xbox won’t be getting Star Ocean, Last Remnant and Resonance of Fate Remasters so ill have to settle with the 360 versions.

I think that's kind of the point of Lockhart though. The gamers who are the most likely to get 4K tv's are the core gamers, the Anaconda is made for them. Lockhart is for the mainstream, the casual gamers, many of whom will still have 1080p tv's early next gen. MS wants them to double dip, they want  them to buy a Lockhart for $300 early gen, then when they do get a 4K tv sometime later in the gen, MS is hoping they will upgrade to Anaconda, which will have dropped to $300 by then. MS gets 2 $300 sales, and they get double the sales numbers which helps make them look good vs Sony.

If we ended up with a scenario where both Anaconda and PS5 are $499, regardless of TF, Lockhart at 4TF or 6TF could potentially be a problem for PS if Pro doesn't stick around. If XB finds a way to market Lockhart and get momentum behind it, they could grow that segment quickly, and once people are 'locked' into the XB ecosystem, hopefully upsell them on Anaconda when they eventually require 4k.

If Pro is still around, then Lockhart is going to have an uphill battle because PS having a bunch of cross gen exclusives and third parties catering to the massive PS4 user base for years, won't allow Lockhart's hardware to mean all that much early on. Unless MS comes out guns blazing with a slew of high quality first party exclusives, or 'locks' up some big third party titles, Lockhart is going to have to wait a couple years before it becomes more appealing, but that's also when Anaconda and PS5 are selling at $399.

PS1   - ! - We must build a console that can alert our enemies.

PS2  - @- We must build a console that offers online living room gaming.

PS3   - #- We must build a console that’s powerful, social, costs and does everything.

PS4   - $- We must build a console that’s affordable, charges for services, and pumps out exclusives.

PRO  -%-We must build a console that's VR ready, checkerboard upscales, and sells but a fraction of the money printer.

PS5   - ^ -We must build a console that’s a generational cross product, with RT lighting, and price hiking.

PRO  -&- We must build a console that Super Res upscales and continues the cost increases.

That reddit leak reads like an Xbox fan fiction. I want to believe it but it seems to good to be true!

If it's true though.... Next generation will be very interesting.

Lockhart will likely target 1080. The casual simply don't care enough about 4k or flops. They just want fifa. A $299 launch console would be huge.

Question - is it time we drop the 'V2' from our thread title?

I feel like this thread has become a vibrant Xbox discussion hub in its own right these days!
