Just checked, and saw that Crytek is still 500 people, despite them closing down four of their studios a while back? What the heck.

I have to agree with Ryuu, Crytek wont be a good pickup. They don't really own any substantial IP, nor is their engine really of any use for microsoft. It would be a waste of money.

If they do really want to buy crytek, they should wait a bit, let them wither away a bit more, and buy it once only the core Germany studio remains.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

I don't think Crysis as an IP for Xbox/Windows would mean much if Halo continues to be a success, especially if Infinite fights off the decline. Crytek has horrible management anyways. The industry should just let them rebuild as they make a modest profit off The Hunt.

Yeah, they won't be buying Crytek for the Crysis IP for sure. For starters, I'm pretty sure that EA owns or co-owns the IP, so it wouldn't be included in the sale unless MS additionally paid EA for the IP. Second, MS Studios creative director Kenn Lobb has said that MS doesn't want to have more than 2 first party shooters (Halo and Gears), which is why he said that Perfect Dark would probably be a Tomb Raider style story driven action-adventure reboot instead of an FPS if MS were to revive Perfect Dark.

Hm, well I read your previous post. You do make good points. Isn't there possible ramifications though of using Cryengine instead of Unreal? Cryengine is less efficient than Unreal, and Unreal has been used for years for Gears. I just think that'd be a pretty massive change.

My guess is that instead of using the current Cry Engine (because like you said, Cry Engine is less efficient and more difficult to develop for than Unreal 4), they would get the Crytek programmers together with some of the engine programmers from other 1st party studios like 343 and and Turn 10, and all of them together would design a new engine to replace Unreal 4 for the other 1st party studios that currently use Unreal 4 (Compulsion, Rare, Ninja Theory, Undead Labs, etc.). Just a thought of course, I have no idea if that is their intention at all.

Also, I feel like The Coalition would stay on Unreal even if MS did design a new engine to replace Unreal 4, Unreal and Gears are synonymous, Gears with a different engine would just be weird.

That's a good point. Crytek also has some of the most talented graphic designers and artists in the industry (well ... at least imo)

Rodney has a pretty good track record doesn't he? I read on reddit that he hinted at MS buying Compulsion before E3. So maybe Crytek actually is a possibility. Here are my thoughts on why MS might want them:

-Hunt. Hunt has been a moderate success for Crytek, selling somewhere between 500k-1m on PC in early access (according to steam spy), their first true success in years. It's a GAAS type game that is perfect for pushing Game Pass subs.

Xbox is getting hunt soon anyway as a "game preview" title.

I wouldn't mind a crisis reboot. Hopefully they can get Ea's hands off it.

Looks like Klobrille is now 100% certain that MS has acquired Obsidian. He was only at 75% certainty last week.

It's very possible that they have acquired some other studio in secret 2-3 new studio announcements at XO18 seems likely now.

Looks like multiple studios confirmed! MS probably already have some under their belt and will reveal them at XO

It could all go to shit, sure. But I don't think people are fully computing the ramifications of Microsoft now owning the studio that produced KOTOR II.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

Would be nice if one or two of their new studios from E3 and XO announce new games at XO18. A new ninja theory game and another from another new acquisition would be awesome
