3% of the Russian military was women in WW2.
And they included pilots, snipers, machine gunners, tank crew members, doctors, surgeons, paramedics and so on.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_women_in_World_War_II

They were in WW2. They were on the front lines. It wasn't a 50/50 split, but I don't think Battlefield is trying to portray it that way?

Sorry, didn't clarify, I was referring British Women with my statement. The trailer depicts a British infantry-woman. A Russian infantry woman in the trailer would have been perfectly acceptable.

Whilst women were limited in some of their roles, they were expected to perform to the same standard as a male soldier performing the same role, and although they could not participate in frontline combat, still manned anti-aircraft guns and defences which actively engaged hostile aircraft above Britain. Women went through the same military training, lived in the same conditions and did almost the same jobs as men, with the exception of not being able to participate in front-line combat. This small but important distinction meant that women did not tend to be nominated for medals of valour or bravery, because they were only awarded for “active operations against enemy in the field”, which women could not take part in.[30]

Women were also distinct because of the titles by which they were addressed in the army, although these tended to be no different from their male counterparts. They wore the same rank insignia as their male counterparts. Many members of the ATS were respected by the units they were attached to despite their different insignia.[30] The only major difference between an ATS member and a male member of the Regular Army was discipline: a woman was not allowed to be court marshalled unless she herself chose to be. The women in the service were also under the authority of the women officers of the ATS, instead of the male officers they served directly under. This meant any disciplinary action was entirely in the hands of the ATS, removing male influence from the process.[30]

British women on the front lines parachuted in, did assassinations and so on. There were only dozens of such women rather than thousands, but the story may be focused on only a few specific people.

Guys I know we play a bit fast and loose with what's 'on-topic' in the Xbox Empire thread, but how deep in to WW2 history do we have to get here?

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

Just as a note. I am not against women being in WW2 games. I do however expect them to be portrayed in a historically accurate manner. I was perfectly ok with Vivian in CoD WW2 last year, a British Intelligence Officer who was based on the real life female British Intelligence officer Violette Szabo. I am perfectly ok with the Battlefield V campaign where you play as a female Norwegian Resistance fighter, as that is historically accurate, and I am looking forward to playing that particular campaign when I rent the game because it's an aspect of WW2 that has never been covered in ag ame before. My problem is with the reveal trailer, which depicts a British Frontline infantry woman, which simply wasn't a thing. While it is possible that a backline woman might have been forced to fight if a position was overrun, the trailer doesn't seem to depict that scenario. The fact that she is an amputee and clearly has combat training, something a backline woman wouldn't have, just feels like pure pandering to me.

She doesn't seem to be with British Intelligence either, the only division where British women saw infantry combat, they primarily parachuted behind enemy lines and worked with local resistance movements, they didn't fight alongside British infantrymen.

100% Agreed.

Is it really a big deal about how historically accurate a game is when you have respawns, magic healing, magic vehicle repairs, etc. It’s a video game.

I also hate the fact that Battlefield V doesn't seem to feature Nazi Iconography like the Swastika, same as CoD WW2 last year. That also feels like pure pandering to me, and as a history buff I find it really annoying.

But enough about this subject, starcraft is right, we're really getting off-topic here.

it's might also be because swastikas would get the game banned in some countries. I think Germany always bans games that feature Nazi symbols. Correct me if i'm wrong.

After doing a little research it seems that games like Wolfenstein are banned in Israel and in Germany they are heavily censored and the international uncensored versions are banned.

It's pretty simple.

Swastikas are only allowed to be shown for artistic or an educational reasons in Germany.
Games aren't considered as art here, therefore games aren't allowed to include swastikas.
