I have to disagree. The last thing MS needs right now is fragmentation of their gaming community. Either they make a deal with Valve which will allow to use Xbox Live in their games, so Steam versions will be crossplay with WinStore/Xbox or if they can't make that deal then don't release games on Steam. I don't think they need another COD:IW situation when WinStore players were cut off from Steam community especially in their first party games.

It runs on Steamworks so no cross-play or XBL required.

Really need to enable cross-play between Steam/Win10/XB1

^ I must say that I really don't like where Xbox seems to be heading. Sounds like their 3 core pillars moving forward are games as a service (a model which I hate), mixed reality (technology that is still in it's infancy and will never gain mass market appeal until the tech has evolved), and broadcasting (never been a big fan of esports and Beam is never going to have the market penetration that Twitch and Youtube have). It really feels like Microsoft is going about it all wrong to me. I hate to say it, but if things keep going the way they're going, I think my love affair with Xbox may finally come to an end. I really hope they surprise me by having several new AAA retail exclusives at E3, but at this point I'm very doubtful. 

Spencer mentioned that at E3 Microsoft will talk about the “next wave of big hits” that will come. and Microsoft will continue to invest on first party opportunities to accelerate the flywheel leading to the growth of Xbox Live.
