Forums - Gaming Discussion - A Microsoft turn around? The importance of games in gaming.

'' This generation has shown us, arguably for the first time, that you dont have to have the best games to be the lead console. Arguably, both the Xbox One and the WiiU have better games than the PS4, and yet they are being beaten (almost combined) in global sales.''

yes that part is the most baffling out of everything

Yeah, now that a lot of games are skipping X1 it's time for the turnaround because of...games?

I probably need to remind you that Rocket League will not be released on Xbox One. At least not in the foreseeable future. So I don't think "games" are a viable angle for a turnaround.

I mean its argued strongly that PS3 and 360 had better games then wii. And now XB1 is pretty equal so far with PS4, though bloodborne might put it ahead. And many would argue that the wii U has better games then both, yet it is losing pretty hard.

And TBH XB1 is losing a lot of japanese support, which should not be underestimated.

Only goes to prove how important first perceptions are.

No doubt. But its still baffling that hype sells more than actual games themselves nowadays

It's not just hype, but expectation. Sony has already proven in 3 consecutive generations that it is able to deliver games in both quantity and quality throughout the whole console cycle.

So to say that PS4 only sells on hype is a tiny bit condescending.

Its not condescending at all. It's a personal opinion. Just as your opinion is the exact opposite

What I find most impressive is Microsoft's ability to persuade their customers that only the holiday season counts and that they can get away with not releasing a single game in the other 9 months.

And that fans actually can claim a superior lineup when all that is being released are two sequels and a third-party moneyhat.

And then in turn those same fans are shocked and dismayed that the rest of the population can choose to buy a console that is more powerful, has less corporate baggage, and has a much larger library of more varied game genres that releases on a continuous year-round schedule.

Depends how well MS does with marketing their stuff IMO. Halo and Forza fans will buy the console regardless. But the mother who is buying a console for the family/kids/husband at Christmas will base her entire purchase on advertising/marketing. We all know that they have the better games this holiday, but they have to prove that to the everyday consumer who doesn't follow video games as intently as we do.

Arguably? Bloodborne is the highest criticly scored game in this generation and the rest of both X1s and PS4 have pretty much same scores. The Wiiu has higher scored games on average but not everyone wants to play only nintendo games.

I think you and others are overvaluing Xboxs and Nintendos exclusives, espacially since their games are mostly sequels to existing series and not new IPs. Its another Mariokart, another Halo, another Forza, another Shmash etc.

The playstation 4 exclusives are mostly new IPs and everyone can see that they look visually better than almost the majority of 8-Gen games.

-Knack is the best looking platformer in this generation, game has a lot of the things in it which nvidia is bragging about with their Physx technology

-Bloodborne is the best looking action RPG

-Killzone SF is the best looking Science fiction schooter

-Infamious SO is the best looking open world GTA style game in a town, you have magic GTA hasnt

-Driveclub has the best graphics in a racing game since they put the rain effects into the game

-The Order 1886 is probably the best looking game overall on pure visual level but not on what the engine is capable of rendering.

-And Uncharted when it comes out will be the best looking action adventure game.

so yeah for a lot of people the ps4 has delivered because a lot of people wanted a next gen upgrade and they got it with the ps4

Technically, no it's not.

Technically it is. Remasters, 3rd party and Nintendo don't count.
