Forums - Gaming Discussion - Wii U version of Project CARS facing troubles, likely cancelled

Ian Bell said in the SMS forum, that its not the CPU' s fault! Its the tire model's issue and since this new model things went downwards. And flops are only theoretical numbers. Stop comparing them, cause there are other things like general purpose and integer performance where Espresso shines ;) The Jaguar CPU's are shitty.

Jaguar has much better integer as well. And theya're theoretical as well.

The tire model runs on the CPU by the way. Now you have a CPU that is that slow as Wii U's. Whos fault is it?

An Atari VCS 2600 is a dedicated gaming device as well.

Wii U's CPU is, in plain words, painfully slow. Now Project CARS has really demanding physics. Basically Wii U cant handle the tire model at all. Just read a little bit in the WMD forum.

So they'd have to change the complete tire model to a much simpler as well as tons of other things. Which means Wii U owners would get one of those 'lazy ports'. In fact the CPU is to slow for a lot of things.

If Nintendo only at least had went for a 1.6GHz PPC quadcore or, better for everyone but Nintendos own devs, an x86 quadcore with 1,6GHz that would be much less of an issue.

oh you do know ALOT about the wii us hardware. I wonder why nintendo isnt hiring you to help them with the next console ;)

Ninti doesnt need Hardware developers but a management that cares for thirds.

Wii U is a hardware tailored for Nintendos needs and around the gamepad.

That might have worked if Wii U had been a major success. With a Wii like install base even third party exclusives might have sold enough. Or cut down versions like the Wii CoDs.

It just wasn't a success nor will it be.

By the way, I have more Wii U than X One games. So it's not that I hate it. It's just underpowered compared to other devices.

Well, they can always cut little things here and there taht are not that noticeable to release the game right now, or maybe they could use variable reolution so that framerate keeps steady, this trick has been done on games like wipeout hd and dont think 6-7 fps are going to hold back to much the image quality when they do the cuts. Another issue may be that they are trying to use MSSA or haevy antialasing solution, they should loook for things like SMAA

No, they cant cut the resolution back, its not a GPU issue. The problem is only the tyre modell and it simply isn't good in terms of efficiency. He said it by himself. Even the Jaguars had problems with it.

I think the most important reason mentioned is the economic one. You know, a lot of us here work. And we do it to support ourselves. I think it is unreasonable to expect publishers and developers to create content for the Wii U as an act of charity. People need to support themselves and game development isn't free.

On one hand you can blame Nintendo for making a weak system... but the truth is, People will continue to make content as long as there is an audience for it (See FIFA 2012 for PS2).

So, I believe that the biggest issue is the lack of interest in content that may look inferior when compared to another console... something that most certainly brings us back to Nintendo...oh dear.

Hell, why stop at FIFA 12? (Yes, a console released in 2000 has a more recent iteration of FIFA than Wii U. Even though FIFA 14 also came out on Wii.)

I think pretty much every anti developer argument on here has now been overturned. "those poor kickstarters who did it purely for a Wii U ver" it wasn't a Kickstarter, it was always an investment model with the idea that money was returned to backers.

PS3/360 cancellations prior show it wasn't format specific.

Chucking in the low userbase is just the final nail in the effort at the moment to make a Nintendo port. The best outcome really, would be that Nintendo announce their next handheld, and it's capable of running the main game. Man I would buy a Nintendo handheld with a game like this in an instant. I was hoping Vita would give me one, but it's looking pretty obvious Gran Turismo won't be hitting Vita now :(

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

It's okay, I doubt a lot of people will buy it anyways.

The big issue is the cpu, we know its a triple cpu identical to the original wii cpu but running at 1.25ghz. It's a basic 32bit risc processor from the last century and doesn't compete in performance with 360 or ps3 because those consoles while having slightly less performance by mhz run their cpu's at 3.2ghz not 1.25ghz and so its an easy win for them.

this "basic risc procesor from last century" achive ~14,8 GFlops at 1,24 gHz, when 8 Core 1,6ghz jaguar from ps4 has ~ 30 Gflops.

I'm not sure where you got that 30 gflops figure from, its well over 100 gflops,  infact over 110 gflops on the slightly faster xbox one cpus.  The wii u figure in gflops is as awful as its integer performance. Lets not also forget the gflops performance of the ps4 gpu is 10x that of wii u gpu approx in addition to being close to 10x wii u in cpu gflops performance.  The ps3 for reference is about 20 gflops for its cell cpu overall.  I don't know what the 360 is.

Again the 45nm process of the wii u cpu and the very low power consumption of the console means we know the console is technically of very low performance even if we don't know all the details anyway.  Look at the cooling on the console or lack of any serious cooling I mean.  The xbox one and ps4 use a 28nm fabrication process which requires far less power than 45nm and produce a huge amount of heat and require decent cooling because their performance level is so much higher.
