It's not reasonable because it's based on assumptions, not on what's been played by the reviewer.

I'm not sure I should be surprised by your stance or not, all things considered.

It's based on reasonable assumptions. If you disagree, please explicitly state that Splatoon's free updates are going to be underwhelming at best, so that we have that on record.

Nobody has played those. So there's no way to comment on their quality. That's the point.

81 is a fine score. Would I have liked more? Yes of course, a better score is always nice.
And while the main complaint seems to be 'lack of content at launch' I think it's closer to 'not enough content for the north american asking price at launch'.

Taking Captain Toad as a reference point I think it would have scored significantly higher if it had been 40 dollars / 35€ in all territories, since pretty much every review I saw, even the lower scored ones, acknowledge that Splatoon feels fresh, innovative, has great, addictive gameplay, solid controls and great replay value, wich sure sounds like a glowing recommendation to me.

To me, the testfire was the best recommendation though. I've played it. I know it's great, I'm getting it.

Can we make comparaisons? How was the first Pikmin ranked?

89, wow that's higher than I thought! Animal Crossing did similarly with 87.

They exist, that's the point.

Meta score about what I expected, and the complaints too.

Yeah, I am perfectly fine with these scores. Some of the complaints I've seen I disagree with, but in aggregate, I think reviewers have handled the game quite well.

That doesn´t make sense.

The right comparaison would be Smash Bros 64, it has a 79 on meta.

Now SB4 has a 92.

Splatoon will grow too, I hope so.

So rather than making a most likely correct prediction, you would knowingly choose to be wrong because the here and now is all that counts.

Be wrong about what? I would review the content I have, and mention that things are set to come later. And I would update the review if the new content warrants it.

My stance is not going to change on that. I wouldn't give a game a better score than it deserves at the time I've played it, based on promises that things to come will make the game better. I would mention that these things are coming, to inform the readers, but those wouldn't make the score higher at this point.

But they're not yet playable for anyone. So how can you review them?

i still think everybody cares way to much about the metascore guys.

Nintendos release plan for this game make it difficult to get good scores.
On the other hand this release plan will give u the game eariler and will hopefully keep the game alive for a long time.

So what do you care more about? a "just good" score on metacritic or to wait 2 more month and the possibilty for a shorter lifespan of the game?
I will always take the first choice so im really happy what nintendo did.
