Has anyone actually thought PS4 and XB1 might be capable of this? Because I feel like it's pretty obvious that they're not. We're still a ways off. Next gen if we're lucky, and probably not even then.

They totally could next gen if they are willing to take a loss for our gain,(which they should since their product is meant for our entertainment and they advance tech along the way) but I doubt they will after last gen and that means we'll see very minimal gains and advances over the enxt few decades because taking a loss is out of the question for them so they'd rather make money than advance themselves and gain more over time, it's roughly about minimal/safe gains now over large gains later and the latter is usually better overall (provided they don't do something really stupid).

Yeah, I actually saw it coming this gen too.  I figured the higher power would be used mostly for more features, and we'll probably see that going forward too.  And I'm actually pretty okay with that.  If graphics hit a point where they just can't afford to spend any more time on them, at least they might be able to improve on all the issues that plague modern gaming.  (They probably won't though, haha.)

You never know, PS6 might be about 4-5 years away and there is currently nothing besides Crossfire/SLi or single GPU's in the 1000$ range that can pull off 4k gaming with decent frame rates, and even then it is choppy at times. Even the Titan X has trouble with 4k and full AA, lighting and shadows in real-time.
Even the PS4's hardware is based on old tech by PC standards, even if the machine itself is new.

4k gaming is far off, but 4k TV is growing slowly but steadily, it will likely be more relevant a lot sooner than 4k gaming at any rate.

Oops, sorry, meant PS5!

My point is that the bleeding edge of hardware tech today cannot pull off proper, fluid 4k gaming yet, so I don't think that it will be introduced in any mainstream devices for many, many years yet. Heck; the 8th gen consoles can barely output 1080p with proper post-processing and AA without taking severe hits on frame rates. I think this guy is right.

"Never Achieve CGI Visuals"

Somebody, go give that Ex-Naughty Dog Dev a copy of The Order 1886.

No wonder he is an Ex Dev.

Seriously, i dont care about more resolution. Heck, i am fine with less resolution. Just give me stable, preferably 60 FPS.

I am at a stage where i cant seem to enjoy games that chug all the time anymore. I dont know when that happened, but i just can't stand it anymore. It ruins my experience.

No wonder your not a dev.

Seriously though, the game looks great.  Easily one of the best of the gneration thus far but it's not CGI quality.  There is CGI from even 20 years ago of still greater quality.

Show me. Show me seamless cgi gameplay from 20yrs ago, and even if you do show me one, you'll still be proving my point that this nobody ex dev is wrong.

Does anyone else see console gaming imploding simply due to the immense cost of keeping up with advancing technology? Hell companies like Konami have pretty much abandoned consoles for mobile because the games don't have to cost 50 million to make and we are seein developers leaving AAA studios more often now. Maybe HD did kill gaming....

No... it was pretty much the same when the change from 2D to 3D occured and pretty much in every generation that managed to achieve a large graphical leap. The gaming scene is changing but none of its main branches is imploding for a good while.

But every gen has less and less games. Titles from mid budget developers have all but disappeared (and some have, a LOT more than the handful of new IP that pop up from time to time). Remakes are rampant due to the ease of time and budget reusing assets. Episodic releases and shady DLC are the norm. Things are pretty bad and get worse every single gen.

How does me showing your 20 year old CGI that is still better quality than The Order proving your point?

As for that 20 year old CGI, it's from a little movie called Jurassic Park.

Well as it turns out, we're talking about separate things.

You know I'm talking about video games right? Video games with seamless cgi gameplay, which has already been achieved in The Order 1886, making the ex nd dev statement false. I just don't understand how you don't understand that.
