You might be unfamiliar with how low the sales numbers of Metroid games are compared to Nintendo's other franchises. Only two Metroid games have ever sold above 2 million, and none have sold above 3 million.Nintendo has had 36 games that have sold above 10 million, 80 games that have sold above 5 million, and 143 games that have sold above the highest selling Metroid game.

Its still not a small franchise. It has sold over 17 million...

Metroid is the one you play as a guy with an orange suit that has a gun arm, right? I played the N64 one. Game was too easy.

I know that's a joke, but I'm getting an urge to smack a bish

Still look how many of those 17 million where in the US.

Metroid and Kirby are basically dead outsides the USA.

It is still one of Nintendo's smaller franchises. Nintendo has 20 individual games that have sold more than the entire Metroid franchise.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

They are still in every Smash game. They are both well known most places.

and how many of those have the word Mario or Pokemon in it?

I haven't heard of it. But I'm pretty isolated, so there's probably plenty of games/franchises I haven't heard of.

And out of that 17 million (as of 2012), it has 2 of the best rated games of all time.

Pretty sure you can't have 2 of the highest rated games of all time and remain unknown to gamers.

You're not just making the assumption that all gamers  pay attention to reviews, but you're making the assumption that all gamers are well studied in the review scores of all games throughout history.

There is a video series called teenagers react. On the NES episode, several of the teenagers had never heard of Metroid before. It should also be noted they all had American accents, so I assume they were American, and they were all gamers as each of them compared the NES controller to gaming systems they played.
