Forums - Nintendo - If the new Zelda is released on NX, will it change how you view the Wii U?

NX is not even confirmed to be a console, its probably just a special nintendo service device, and i dont think Zelda Wii U will be released on the next console. Do you see Skyward Sword being released on Wii U because it was released one year before Wii U's release. and they could just included the Wii Motion plus controller in a bundle. The reason why they did it because of twilight princess is of the bad sales of the gamecube and they wanted to try out new things with the wii remote and we are still in the middle of Wii U's Life cycle, not the same thing as the gamecube. I think Nintendos next home console will be available 2018.

Yes, it is confirmed to be a console.

“Though I cannot confirm when it will be launched or any other details of the system, since I have confirmed that it will bea dedicated video game platform with a brand new concept’ [as stated during the initial announcement] it should mean that we do not intend it to become a simple ‘replacement’ for Nintendo 3DS or Wii U,” Iwata told investors in a now translated Japanese Q&A.

i read that as if he means it has something to do implemented with the whole portable gaming, so its a merge with Mobile gaming and handheld gaming, not a console. Thats a deticated video game platform aswell because its detciated to video games. doesnt mean its a console as we know it

I see New 3DS not as a new handheld, just like DSI XL, and that came 2010 if i remember correctly and a year after that they release 3DS, a new handheld is something entirely different, but in your statement that seems like they just released Wii U you think they release a new console? i dont think so, i think the new console will be released 2018

Don´t worry about it.

I wouldn't bother buying Nintendo's next console until it got hacked if this is the case. Every Nintendo console had at least one Zelda game dedicated (not cross-platform) to it regardless of sales and if they pull this shit off, then I have no guarantees of getting a Zelda game exclusive to their consoles since it would depend on its sales. It will be a giant fuck u to me and one that I wont take lightly

But as others have said "Don't Worry About It"

All I need to be happy with my wii u is some xenoblade...

It won't be an NX exclusive. Zelda is a game for the hardcore and most of Nintendo's hardcore already owns a Wii U. From a sales point of view, Zelda U can sell well on the Wii U and porting it exclusively to the NX would serve to anger millions of fans.  Not to mention, doing this would be one of the most shameless and dishonest decisions in Nintendo's history.

That said, I think there is a chance that Zelda U could be like Twilight Princess and be a cross-platform release. I think it would still be a shameless and dishonest move by Nintendo, especially if the Wii U ends up getting a gimped version of the game.

There is no way to know for sure, but I do think Wii U owners can rest comfortable knowing that they will get Zelda U in some form. Hopefully it's a dedicated release before the NX comes out.

It would definitely bring down the value of the Wii U considerably. That said, I'm basically certain that that won't happen.

Yeah, see the thing is, I feel like if it released on both Wii U and NX, I'd almost have to buy it for NX. I say that because in my mind, the NX version would almost certainly be better, either visually or because of some added features. I mean, I know that people have strong opinions about this, but I actually think TP was way better on Wii than on GCN. I think it would be similar for this new Zelda. So for someone like me, I would have played 0 Zeldas on the Wii U, which is why I'm saying it would be a disappointment.

I agree. If you only bought TP for the GCN and never bought a Wii, you would always be wondering what the game looked like in 16:9 widescreen and  how it played with motion controls.  It would take away from the experience of playing Zelda just knowing that there's a better version out there even if the GCN version is still OK.

That said, what made the TP muli-plat release tolerable on the GCN was that Wind Waker was an amazing game.  Yes, people wanted a non-cartoony Zelda but they already had a dedicated Zelda on the Gamecube and it was arguably one of the best in the series.  The Wii U is a completely different situation, though.  Not only are we missing a proper 3D Mario game, but Zelda U is our only chance to have a dedicated Zelda on the Wii U.  Nintendo has also teased us with numerous Zelda U trailers as well as a whole 5 minutes of actual gameplay footage.  I can guarantee you that close to 50% of people who have bought a Wii U have done so at least partly because of the promise of Zelda U.  TP was icing on the cake for GCN owners, Zelda U is a fundamental pillar in many people's decision to buy a Wii U.

To respect its fans, Nintendo should make Zelda U a Wii U exclusive.  Anything that shows up on the NX should be a re-release after the fact.
