Silent or Spoken Protagonists?

.... The silent type... 49 44.55%

I like more talkative ones 61 55.45%

Total:110

We see both pretty often in games. In the early days of gaming most protagonists had no dialogue due to restrictions among other things. Nowadays it's pretty common to have a fully fleshed out main protagonist who speaks and etc. But how do you feel about them? Which to you do you like more?

I feel like I like silent protagonists as long as there's a party member who is able to talk. If its just the main character alone and they're silent I prefer the more talkative type XD

It really doesn't matter to me.. both are perfectly fine and I enjoy games that may or may not have talking characters.

Just depends. Currently Im half way through GROWLANSER 4 and it handles the silent protagonist the best I have ever seen it handled. Then we have GOLDEN SUN, in which silent protagonist is treated like a fucking idiot.

A person who's playing Growlanser? o.o You're officially the only other person I know who's played that game XD Very underrated game, but I agree with you.

Man, I regret the many times I walked into my old Game Crazy and saw and held Growlanser Generations and never bough it. I feel like a criminal. Growlanser 4 is awesome.

Both are fine, but I think I can actually immerse myself more into the game with the silent protagonist type. Whenever the protagonist speaks, I usually don't feel like it could be me speaking, and I sort of feel like I'm just watching something happen instead of being immersed in it myself.

I dont mind talking, as long as its not Nolan North or Troy Baker.

But silent characters are always best.

Depends on the writing. If my MC is a tool, then silent but if not, then talk

Depends on the narrative. If plot is key, I prefer a spoken one. If its more about the journey/atmosphere, then silent one.

Great examples of vocal protagonist: Joel (THLOU), Drake (Uncharted), Booker (Bioshock), Vann Balthier (FFXII)

For Silent, Link, Samus and the people in Journey come to mind.

im ok with both but a silent one has have a good supporting cast for it to work.
