Forums - Gaming - Elder Scrolls Online Xbox One/PS4 Locks Out People Who Buy Used or Rent

Was never interested in getting this, but this is a bad move. I would be content that they did this if somehow you could deactivate the account of the selling player, then transfer the licence to the new owner.

If people tolerate this, we'll have Mattrick's vision in no time.

And used games are not as bad as piracy, because the previous owner no longer plays the game, ESPECIALLY so in an online only game where server space has not increased, it has simply been transfered. This new player may then buy expansion packs/other dlc etc...

This is from somebody who buys 90% new games by preorder, and sells prety much all of them eventually to fund new games. If there was no reselling, I'd buy half as many new games at full price.

yes, im stealing from the poor mega corp EA and all of their shareholders if i buy a used game.  its not like they made a game thats so bad you want to sell it after some days...

Be a smart consumer then. Wait for sales, pricedrops, and/or reviews.

Used games are the primary reason for the advent of day 1 (and soon after) DLC. Developers/publishers attempted to counter used game sales by implementing the online pass, but people like you bitched and moaned about having to contribute $5-10 to the actual workers that made the game. The online pass actually made sense -- it allowed each and every purchaser to contribute SOMETHING towards the online infrastructre of the game. Sony now handles it (Microsoft already did this all of gen 7) outside of the game via network subs.

You truely do NOT undertand economics if you cannot see how used game sales are a bane on all of gaming. Steam demonstrates how PC games can be sold on frequent and cheap sales -- BECAUSE each and every purchaser contributes SOMETHING to the development cost.

5-10$? what where how?

And yet contributed NOTHING to the game developer. Meaning you fed a corporation like gametop which doesn't produce anything... and contributed nothing to the developer to fund the NEXT game.

I don't think you truly understand. Gamestop siphons money out of the development process. Companies take revenue and use it to pay for their next project. Gamestop just takes it.

You spend SLIGHTLY less money (gamestop buys day old games for like $35 and sells it for $55). Thats $5 less than retail new... but instead of the publisher getting ~50% of the money they get ZERO. If used games did not exist, the publishers wouldn't need to account for the lost revenue and could reduce the overall cost of the game, implement sooner/ more frequent sales, could eliminate the practice of day one DLC, etc.

You CANNOT be someone that partakes in the used games industry and simultaneously bitch about DLC without being a hipocrite.

na, im not allowed in gamestop anymore... i buy them at a small local shop, they are realy nice people, try to help as much as they can, and they dont pay you nothing for games.

if people sell the games after days, well than something isnt right with the games.

if publishers would force the studios to make better game, nobody would sell their game to gamestop after some days...

You are assuming that all games have severe replayability for every person. So far i've gathered you aren't a microsoft fan -- but Halo 5 appears to be the most hyped upcoming game at the moment.

If someone was one of these anti-online players they would only play Halo for the single player. Their campaign (I thought i heard this... i could be wrong) is rumored to be around 8 hours long. This means that someone could be the game and return/ sell it within the span of a day.

The Order 1886 is a case of a game that has low replayability for almost everyone due to the lack of multiplayer. This caused (IMO) the majority of the hate.  Platinuming the game took < 10 hours. and I personally know someone that returned (not sold) the game back to gamestop after achieving the plat.

yeah, no, im not a fan of mediocre slow fps. and im hyped for UT15 or what ever they call it. the kings of FPS are back...

and sure some gamers sale mediocre games after hours because they complete em and dont see any replayability.  if just a few person do that, well thats normal, but if so many people sale or return the game in the first week that you can find it used without problem, well not my problem if you dont make money because your game sucks..

I didn't think that you could transfer ownership of a game to someone under the original X1 plans.

I still strongly disagree that used games are as bad as piracy. For one Piracy is illegal COPYING of intellectual property, with multiple (thousands if not millions) copies from ONE paid for copy. A second hand game is not a copy, it is the original product that has been transfered to a new owner.

I don't usually buy used games anymore at all, but I traded in some things for store credit so I am stuck with that until I spend it.

But again if people didn't buy the used games I trade in, I wouldn't be able to afford as many new games, so developers/publishers would be worse off.
