Forums - Sony - Sony: 'No Concerns' for Holiday lineup

I think many people around various gaming forums have forgotten that all of the developers Sony had at the beginning of the generation are still a part of worldwide studios and last time I checked they've all been working on AAA exclusives for PS4 for years.

Nothing about this recent statement from Fergal Gara makes it sound like Sony doesn't have big exclusives for the Fall, it's more like he can't talk about stuff they're going to announce for the Fall soon.
He doesn't even state that Tearaway or NMS are Fall games, he's just saying that's a taster of what they have coming later this year, the taster presumably includes Until Dawn and Fat princess, along with the slew of smaller games or big indies like Rime, from June to December.
The interview with MCV even says that NMS is basically being treated like a 1st party game now, whatever that means.

Even Yoshida's past comment on indies becoming more popular doesn't hint to the extinction of the AAA, just that there will be more of those games, so it'll seem like there are fewer AAA's by comparison.

I see so many people saying they hate it when a game gets announced and then nothing comes of it for ages. It would actually be much better for a game if it was announced and then came out within less than 6 months of when it was announced.
Announcements bring huge hype for exciting games, if that game wasn't far away from release surely people would actually pay more attention too it.
Announce with hype, keep the hype up and release during that hype period.

Hell Kaz Hirai has said Sony are investing more in 1st party and exclusives. He's even said in the part that he wants to utterly dominate the console space, which of course means outright AAA exclusives, along with smaller games and 3rd party dominance.

Sony already has the 3rd party sales locked up, they have a wide range of indies and more on the way.
I wouldn't be shocked if Sony's E3 is mainly about 1st party, stuff coming over the next 6-12 months.
They aren't going to just give up and leave 3rd party to carry the weight, not when they still have all of the same 1st party studios they did at the beginning of the generation.

We'll see what happens, but if Sony aren't concerned, even after delaying Uncharted & Ratchet, while PS4 goes up against Halo 5 then they must have more in their back pocket.
Shocking the community with surprise announcements of big exclusives ready to release this Fall seems like a sound strategy too me and one I think Sony will adopt, now that PS4 has a big install base to carry those games.

They have stuff they've been working on for ages, which has to drop at some point.
3-5months marketing for a big appealing game seems like plenty of time too me and Sony could definitely have some standout stuff compared to the 3rd party franchises on offer this Fall.

All Microsoft has is Forza and Halo, Tomb Raider being timed I don't count. No Mans Sky will out sell Forza easily, even being "Indie" considering Forza isn't a big seller anyways. Plus with Black Ops 3, Assassins Creed Syn, Battlefront (tied in with the movie coming out), they're is plenty to play. Most people who play Halo have Xbox Ones already, I had one before trading it in to pay a car payment.
For a bunch of people who have problems with money throughout the year, that time of the year is stakcked. Microsoft hasn't released anything great exclusively at the beginning of the year until the end of summer. The years line ups aren't much different Imo

If you talking quality exclusives then Bloodborne has got a 93% on metacritic. That's AAA standard. If you are talking and only care about mass appeal and sales then only a handful of Sony Exclusives have ever reached anywhere near Halo, GTA kinda sales and thats Gran Turismo and GOW. It's never stopped Sony having some of the best exclusives, quality wise, in gaming.

Bloodborne is a 93% to people that enjoy Darksouls. To the rest of us... its not a 93%.

Sony never had the best exclusives, Sony fans just insists they do. Sony is a little focused on cinematic experiences for my taste, that's also what hurt The Order.

When it comes to actual enjoyable gameplay, I give the edge to MS.

I dont even know where to begin with that statement.

You can apply that rule to every single game out there. Halo is, well, for Halo fans. To the rest of us its meh! Forza is for racing fans, to the rest of us its meh!

I don't like every 90%+ rated game out there, standard, and everybody will have there own favourite genres. You can't blindly dismiss Bloodbornes 93% rating because it doesn't appeal to everybody. Every, EVERY single game will have people that like it even if its got poor ratings and there will be people that will hate it even though its got good ratings.

You can't change the fact Bloodborne was very well received and is classed a AAA title.

"When it comes to actual enjoyable gameplay, I give the edge to MS."

Fair enough. You are entitled to your opinion but that's all it is, your opinion.

Sure, but my problem is that us Sony guys haven't got a "Halo, Uncharted or GTA" quality game yet. I am still waiting. (Yes I know GTA V is on PS4)

WOW!!!! I don't know where to start here. There's so many things I can say. I'll just say that both Sony and MS have games with enjoyable gameplay. I can also say that Sony possibly can have more of the edge here due to their more diverse lineup than MS. Of course, that's also up to the interpretation of the public on which is more enjoyable. However, I wouldn't dare conclude that MS has more enjoyable gameplay than Sony when Sony has more variety that may entice that gamer's preference.

Sure, they will show something, but nothing of significance. They will have nothing that can stand up to Halo, Tomb Raider and Forza. Nothing.

Are you interested in Halo, Tomb Raider, or Forza?

If those games are big for you, why don't you game on the XBO instead of complaining?

Those games are big especially Halo, which is even bigger than Zelda, Super Mario, Gran Turismo or Uncharted in the US even if you don´t like one of them, its just that many people will not buy another system and wants to believe that greatness will arive on the PS4. Great times are arriving on Xone yet Sony doesn´t particulary seem to give a crap, it´s not like MS is going to surpass them any day soon as long as Europe and Japan are considered part of this globe. Luckily we still have Bloodborne and If From Software would so much as tease another entry that would be lovely.

I'm thinking major exclusives for the holiday quarter will be

Tearaway Unfolded

Until Dawn

No Man's Sky

These 3 titles offer a pretty diverse exclusive holiday lineup.

I see 2 commercial flops and one Indie title which could go either way, now look at MS Halo (which is going to outsell all on Launch day), Forza which is likely to sell quite a good amount and Tomb Raider whichh would also do well with a little PR. Sony needed Uncharted banged all on one horse and lost that horse even if Rise of the Tomb Raider is delayed Microsoft would still kick Sony's behind.

There wont be any beind kicking. Please answer this, if sony has a price cut and makes battle front bundles, assasins bundles, mgs bundles, cod bundles, do you honestly think a halo and a tomb raider will completey oblitarate ps4? This holiday will be very close. And if sony gets outsold by 100k that wont mean much. Sony is marketing all the biggest third parties they have a very good holiday strategy. The same starategy that won ms last holiday. Third party bundles.

Just like Microsoft kicked Sony's behind last holiday with Forza Horizon 2+Sunset Overdrive+Master Chief Collection going up against LittleBigPlanet 3+Driveclub? We have already seen that people prefer PS4 over XB1 when it comes to multiplats so Sony doesn't have nearly as much pressure to have big exclusives for the holidays.

Halo is a way bigger than Forza or Sunset hell I would say that game is bigger than those 2 combined on commerical area. I am sure those games will ensure MS to win both NPD's and regain their home terroty. Driveclub was quite a big game for Sony and it outsold Horizon 2 (even the launch was broken) it was also anticipated since it was the first racing game on the PS4 which isn't NFS. If MS does a €350$ Halo bundle on Black friday it could potentially sell a million units. Sony is lucky to have MGS as practically an exclusive (MGS doesn't sell to well on MS consoles).

Who says MS doesn't have any third party bundle as well for all I care they could have the fallout 4 bundle and the COD bundle (which is more of an MS franchise anyway, combined with Halo 5 and of course the 400$ Halo bundle or even 350$ on black friday and Sony can say goodbye to being  marketleader in US. During the holidays neither companies had a megaton MS has one this time especially for the US, it's leading the US pre order chart already.
