Forums - Gaming - Does Lack of Backwards Compatibility Device and HD Remakes Tie in Together?

I see remasters as a way for developers to finance future projects. They are pretty much pure profit. I don't like them. I think they are unnecessary. However I do recognize that some people do enjoy them. Bottom line: I'd rather have remasters than BWC because the console price will not be as high. More than that though I'd rather just play it on my old consoles or play it on PS Now

I'd honestly rather have access to all my games on one system than a hand full of older, repolished ones. PC never has to deal with this shit. People brag about a lot of things when it comes to PC, but the biggest reason I've considered converting is that I can a large amount of games on Steam, regardless of console generation. When 9th gen comes, all my 8th, 7th, 6th, etc gen games will be playable on that one PC.

Remasters are nice, but they are solutions to a problem that frankly should not exist.

That and getting remasters and remakes that add more visuals and trinkets that will also carry on forever =P.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

Well, the upper hand that valve has here is that it controls the marketplace.

Console makers don't have any control over used games, and it's not like they keep making old games for new sales. Valve on the other hand sells everything digitally, so if you want to play that old game, you have to buy it from them.

That's kind of a massive difference.

One could also make the counter-argument that on the consoles, you can always buy used for cheaper than on steam.

I totally prefer HD remakes over BC.

unless you want hardware that costs $600 BC isn't an option this gen.

Though I'm talking about an add on decive, not built in

except that's not really what you're talking about.  if that was actually what you wanted you'd just plug your 360 into the HDMI in of your xbox.  ..but nobody actually wants that.

Is it not? Its odd youre telling me what Im talking about even though i say I am and its my direct question at the end of the OP and written through out on numerous occasions.  It was and is the primary question I am asking.  If you dont believe me just ask me, Ill tell you ;P

PS: That isnt BC.  That Mirroring your X360

"Backwards compatabilty is always a very requested feature in new consoles but at times like this generation the XBO and PS4 were unable to do backwards comatabilty due to new architecture.  Because of this the X360 and PS3 simply were not able to.  The WiiU on the other hand is capable of such features, but one requested peripheral has been requested dating back to the PS3 and X360 days.  An-add on that allows us to play our old games.

Sony went so far as to filing a patent for such an item. So why is it we do we still not have such an item after all these years?  Is it impossible or too expensive?  Or does the easy money of reselling old games as HD remasters have a hand in this choice?  Its hard to tell one way or the other but this generation has certainly had a lot of remasters including The Last of Us, Halo MCC, Metro Redux, God of War, etc.  The list goes on and on.  This isn't to say remasters are good or bad, in fact they offer a breath of new life and give us a reason to revisit these titles.  Speaking from a competitive and multiplayer driven view, revisiting Gears of War will be a delight.  After all, the game in 2015 is dead when it comes to multiplayer and I'm certain a backwards compatible addon device wouldn't change that, but on the opposite spectrum remaking the game would.

But how do you all feel about so many remasters?  Are you ok with it?  Do you think this is why we still don't have a backwards compatible add-on device?"

...because you're living in the land of fairy-tales where a "BC compatible add-on device" means somthing less than an entire console attached to your current gen console which is not what is needed to be able to run last gen games on your current gen system.

At least read things through

yes, those greedy fuckers at nintendo scammed us out of money with cutting the GC support. it would only be some cents..

The wiiu might got backwards compatibility but nintendo still released HD remakes and its not true backwards compatible without having the normal wii controler the for majority of games. I think its mainly third party publishers pushing for this trend just like with crossgen.

Nintendo still releases HD remakes? Ruler you definitley dont know anything about Nintendo man, you show that in a lot of coments, no offense.

There is ONE hd remake on WiiU, and it´s from a GC game, not from a Wii one, and nothing more. A wii controle is something very cheap and there´s 100 milions of wii around thwe world, so there´s like 400 milion or more wii controllers sold, it´s very easy to have one or find someone with one. If not, it´s like 15/20$, you pay that 1 time and you play all the wii games you want, how can you compare that with tons of 60$ remakes from the last generation?
