Recently many games have been recieving spiritual successors with Kickstarter projects like Mighty No. 9, Yooka-Laylee, and now Bloodstained . So far these projects have been very successful and have created a lot of excitement for fans of older IPs who have either lost their way, buried by their company, etc. It wouldn't be surprising to find another spiritual successor project arriving in the not-so-distant future either.  

How do you feel about this recent insurgence? Will it affect the industry in a positive or negative way, or maybe not at all? Are you looking forward to playing these spiritual successors? Any dead series you want to see get the same treatment?

I like it. If the big companies can't see the demand for these games that are clearly wanted (since they are not only getting funded but exceeding it by quite a nice margin), then this is the best and only alternative. Still won't buy/fund any of them till release though

It's nice for those that love the gameplay and miss that style, but personally it's just not the same.

It's a lot harder for fans to replace long running series. Like Mighty No. 9 can never replace Mega-man no matter how hard they try and fans of Mega-man probably won't give the same love they did with Mega-man towards with Mighty No. 9. That's how I see it anyways.

I would love to see a spiritual successor for Dino Crisis if Capcom is no longer going to make one.  This would be acceptable for me as there were only 2 real Dino Crisis games and was released long ago (DC3 on Xbox doesn't count, that was a mess xP ).

When a series has no other options, I'd back a Grandia spiritual successor for a silly amount of money.

It all depends on the game itself. I'm very excited for Yooka-Laylee myself and I never played a Banjo-Kazooie game.

I'm all for it. My tastes and the current state of the publisher-driven video games industry are not aligned. And judging by how quickly these things are hitting their goals, I'm not alone.

Yeah, I feel as though the originals will never really be replaced either. I wonder (especially if more come) if this will cause a lot of hate to the new IPs from fans of the original series. 

What is Dino Crisis? I always hear about it but have never seen it

I'd kill for a spiritual successor to Wild Arms, Grandia, Lunar, Chrono, and all those other RPGs that were around from 1997 - 2005. When the publishers are unwilling to finance the kind of games that game developers and fans used to create and play but still want to see, then Kickstarter spiritual successors are often the only avenue to pursue. The current state of the industry is unkind to the kind of mid-tier games that used to fill the market before, and that is a shame.

I have mixed feelings about them. Some projects like Shadow of the Eternals are/were very promising and I would happily pay for them. And some others like Mighty No. 9 are so offensive to my intelligence and poorly made that if there is a God up there, I hope it makes Inafune spend all the money that he has cheated to people in medicines.

I think it's fine.

As long as these developer can deliver what they promise, I don't really see anything wrong with having more games :P
