While I would've like to see the game arrive with more content, this is an interesting choice and I hope that this can continue the Splatoon hype through the summer. We'll just have to wait and see though.

It seems like, except from a small group of people, this game has only gotten hate from all corners of the world ever since it was announced it wouldn't have voice chat and custom games (which was false in the end). Right now, people seem to be looking at every inch of content this game has attempting to find something to bitch about and say it's crap. This includes you. As I said on the other thread, this isn't more devoid of content at launch than Mario Kart 8 was. |
Mario Kart 8 isn't a shooter, and has exponentially more content than this game has, even after considering all the DLC. That isn't even comparable. It doesn't take much to find something negative to say about the game. There's literally no logical way to spin "one online mode with 5 maps in a $60 game" as a good or alright thing.
I hope what you're saying is right though, and I'm not in the minority like it feels like this, because Nintendo can't be allowed to think that this shit is okay.
| Teeqoz said: If Driveclubs reviews were affected by how it was immediately after launch, why wouldn't Splatoons? Not just in relation to online, but Driveclub hasn't gotten a ton of free content since launch, people don't seem to give a shit about that, soo... It is quite barren at the time of release, and I wish they'd not been in such a hurry to release it that they have to release half of tye game now and add the rest through updates later, but I understand why they do it. |
Well, to be fair, Nintendo is being transparent and warning gamers upfront. Driveclub was not able to deliver day one what was advertised as such.
But yea, i expect reviews to take a hit. That and missing voice chat are going to pull splatoon towards a 7X score, maybe it can make it into the 80's if reviewers show some good will towards the released schedule and fun gameplay. A pity, for me this game could easily sit in the 90's if had more content.

No, not better. Not even close to better. Not for $60.
And no, it's one. Only turf wars is available at launch. One.
i really like the idea.
This just keeps the game alive for a long time and give me reason to come back later.
Also, often i get owerhelmed with new games if there is to much stuff to do so i easily loose interest (there is to much i cant decide to do so i just want do everything quick and cant enjoy the stuff to much).
So at all im satisfied with this.
Only critics i can see about splatoon is
- no voice chat with friends (come on nintendo, the wii u chat is already there, just make it an non camera party mode which runs in background...cant be to hard....)
Its really ridiculous to offer an video chat but no voice only party chat on a gaming console, wtf...
- I want off tv play and pro controller. Its not to hard, superjump could work by using d-pad (dpad up= jump to person1, dpad right=jump to person 2, etc). And a minimap on the tv (like nobody look on the gamepad while playing tbh). Then they could also easily add a 2 player local mode to join online battles (like in cod), the battle dojo seems not as good.
All this and i think it would be my goty 2015.
| spemanig said: It's insane the lengths people will go to pardon this game. Any other online shooter released by any other company would have been absolutely crucified for daring to launch their game with only one online mode and 5 maps. I called the severe lack of content months ago, but even I wasn't pessimistic enough to consider that there wouldn't even be ample maps at launch. |
Uhm the order 1886 was a shooter with a 4 hour campange (2 hour cutscenes) without any online mode at all, without any free dlc announced and still got less hate as splatoon does.
My honest opinion: Many people dont own a wii u and they need to convince themself that this game is bad, because they cant play the game and its much easier to accept you cant play a crap game then it is to play awesome fun game.
btw: is the game really 60$ in us? Im reading it all day.
its 35€ im europe at launch digital.
physical you can preorder for 32€.
Wow, I did not know that. The single player content had better deliver.
And, yes, critics need to be consistent and judge the game by what it offers on Day One. GT5 ended up with so much more content than it launched with, which made it a much better game down the road, but the review scores did not change.
Honestly, if you think about, what if the bulk of the promised content wasn't very good? What if it was all brilliant? You can't score on content that isn't there one way or another.
I'm pretty surprised by this.
Though, on the other hand, if they were worried that there wouldn't be enough players at launch, channeling them all into a few modes makes sense. By that same token, you can also count on the new modes being popular when they launch, as well, just because they're new and shiny.
This somehow feels like a small project that was made into a bigger project.

Splatoon did not receive more hate than The Order. Claiming so is just outrageous.

Ahhh... That remind me CoD advanced warfare PC at launch - whatever mode you play, you get never a full party (was very frustrating) O.o

the general consensus seems to be this is a rather poor decision and that Nintendo rushed it, but I am not too sure myself.
Based on the demo I played, I want to jump in right away and play it. 5 maps seems rather weak, but it wasn't something I really thought of when playing this game. I was just having too much fun playing it. I may start to notice the lack of features down the line, but at this point, I just want more...
Perhaps they should have delayed this game to have the other features included, but I can't really be upset in the end. The extra content coming is free, and won't be too long of a wait to get. I'm not upset by this.
