Kinda aggressive aren't ya? So it's Turf War, doesn't change that it's one game mode that's unlocked from the start, which is ridiculously low for the $60 that it is sold for in the US, but I guess you have to jump to defend Nintendo here, even going as far as to draw completely pointless comparisons to The Order.

A new mode, Splatzone will be unlocked after a day or two...

The dlc is free, what don't you get about that?

People don't buy a game in May to finally have the full game in August, what do you not get about that? There's was a time not too long ago when the Nintendo crowd was very proud of Nintendo for releasing all their games finished, so why is this being defended so vehemently by you now?

Imo post launch extra content should be there to add value above the $60 content that already came with the base game when you bought it at launch, not to deliver the $60 value you expected at launch.

Though I agree, you also have to agree that this "post launch extra content", in the way you think it should be done, should be paid DLC. No one's going to make a fully fledged $60 game they're unsure will even sell well and then just add free content like that. In fact, most developers these days make a fully fledged $60 game with its contents locked away behind more paywalls (well can't say Splatoon isn't doing that, but whatever).

Well of course, I'm not saying that they should put out post launch content above the value of a normal $60 game and give it out for free, I'm mainly criticising that they're clearly putting out an unfinished game here.

Back then when he said it, maybe. But Splatoon is a finished game (as in, the engine, the gameplay, etc.) with an incomplete amount of content that will be added. Since the game will still be done by August, it won't be "forever bad" after that.

Why are they trying to sell it now if they amount of content is incomplete?, just delay it, add more content (I am not saying all) and offer a more rewarding package from day 1. I would be happy to pay for this ON disc:

  • a Story mode with 28 levels (not really confirm 28 levels)
  • 10 multiplayer maps
  • 4 multiplayer game modes
  • lots of weapons
  • matchmaking option
And they can add this later as free (or even payed) DLC:
  • 4 more multiplayer maps
  • 1 new multiplayer mode
  • gears, weapons etc.

With that amount on content on day 1 the ratings could improve a lot, right now the offering seems lacking.

Yeah my mistake. But MK8 is a racing game, those live of their tracks of which MK8 has a lot. I stand by what I said, in August the game's full price (at least in NA) will be justified, at the end of May it won't be. I'm not even going to touch on the Amiibo exclusive missions.

MK8 was constantly criticised for it's lack of content (32 tracks is no dif from past 3 games) and variety, yet still pulled an 88 on metacritic be my point there. Sure you can stand by it, but what you said still doesn't mean much as it's not like you wont have all that content by August if you buy day one.

There's a difference between 32 tracks and 5 maps, if Splatoon manages to get even close to an 88 then I'll be extremely surprised.

There's also a difference between 3+ modes and 1 + 1 half assed one, aswell as one game having superior depth variety and dynamic to it's gameplay than the other.

I struggle to wrap my head around this. All the content included in the game seems to be complete and polished, and we will continue to get more complete and polished material throughout the year for free. Why is that bad exactly? Its not like the content that exists is unfinished and will be polished after launch and it isn't like Nintendo is asking you to pay extra. Instead they are implementing a strategy that they believe will keep people playing the game for a long time after launch.

Saying "well I want it now!" just seems like a petty complaint, and I'm surprised that so much weight is being lent to these concerns.

Pre-orders are saying otherwise. Again, because the content is free, there is no harm buying an "incomplete" game as it will eventually become complete, and you can just wait until then before buying if it bothers you that much.

I see plenty of people buying broken and unfinished games on the other 2 consoles lol.

It's defended because the dlc is FREE. It's defended because it's only €40 here. That's €30 cheaper than The Order. Let that sink in.

You don't even know how long the singleplayer will be.

Buy the game in August if you care so much. ;)

It's certainly better than just releasing the game and letting its hype eventually die off, though it needed a lot more content at launch.

MK8 so far is their best execution of post launch content.

So wanting a game to be actually complete at launch is petty now? The game was from the get go marketed as a multiplayer focused game, a game like that launching with:

5 multiplayer maps,

1 online competitive multiplayer mode (with 1 soon to follow) and 1 local multiplayer mode and

no private matches and no party system.

Can by no definition be called complete and finished.

Unless the post August stuff is also free, which it kinda has to be with them so afraid of having a divided userbase.
