Forums - Nintendo - Splatoon post-launch plans - is it good?

Splatoon launches on May 29

What you getting on day one:

  • a Story mode with 28 levels (not really confirm 28 levels)
  • 5 multiplayer maps
  • 3 multiplayer game modes
  • lots of weapons
upcoming free updates events:
  • 9 multiplayer maps - every week a new map?
  • 2 new multiplayer modes
  • gears, weapons etc.
  • August 2015 "Huge post-launch update event" added matchmaking option
I think Nintendo wants release Splatoon before Summer (for some reasons). These launch plans has Pro & Contra.
Pro: We can play Splatoon earlier (Im really happy about this)
Contra: It really looks like Splatoon has lack of content/is not worth - it could have an negative effect on the reviews
What do you think? Is this launch plan good or do you prefere that Splatoon should launch August with all updates?

Yup, this way they will pushing this game till the rest of year with new updates and stuffs..

I'm not sure yet. Nintendo is certainly trying something new for them (as far i know).

I don't think it will affect reviews though, since they ignore bugs and take developer promises a lot.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

This is showing a very interesting path, the game is going to get bigger and bigger with time, I think Splatoon is going to have twice the content of launch in one year.

It's in interesting release model and I think its success will depend largely on whether the initial released content is enough to warrant the price for most people. You can't predict legs in a new IP and most games tet the bulk of their sales in the first week so if this hurts the first week b a certain percentage, having increased awareness later on might not be able to make up for that large hit the first week.

Of course that's all hypothetical as we'll have no other Splatoon release sales to compare to but I could see it as one hypothetical situation.

The content at day 1 seems to be too limited for my taste, especially from a Nintendo game. It depends a little on how much time it takes to complete the single player levels and the replay values. It looks like I'll be waiting until august after the update.

If Driveclubs reviews were affected by how it was immediately after launch, why wouldn't Splatoons? Not just in relation to online, but Driveclub hasn't gotten a ton of free content since launch, people don't seem to give a shit about that, soo...

It is quite barren at the time of release, and I wish they'd not been in such a hurry to release it that they have to release half of tye game now and add the rest through updates later, but I understand why they do it.

It's insane the lengths people will go to pardon this game. Any other online shooter released by any other company would have been absolutely crucified for daring to launch their game with only one online mode and 5 maps. I called the severe lack of content months ago, but even I wasn't pessimistic enough to consider that there wouldn't even be ample maps at launch.

This actually strikes me as a title that was design as smaller, and then for some reason has grown (maybe public hype or internal awareness).

It reminds me of Smash Bros on N64, that wasn't such a huge deal for nintendo during development and became a very important IP. I expect the next Splatoon (on 9th gen) to become bigger.

I am happy to see some younger (i think) Nintendo Devs being so creative.

better 5 good maps than 15 with the quality of bf hardline.

and its not one online mode, its 3.

still, thats not alot, and nintendo realy have to deliver after launch to make it worth the price.
