Forums - Sony - Ebay Removes Auctions Selling PS4 With P.T.

With Konami cancelling its much anticipated game, Silent Hills, gamers were left scratching their heads over what to do. While some fans lamented the demise of the game, others saw the chance for a quick buck to made after PlayStation removed the Silent Hills playable trailer (P.T.) from their store on April 29. As reported previously by The Inquisitr, people who had downloaded and played the trailer were able to sell their PS4 consoles on eBay for well over $1,000 each.

It seems, however, according to Kokatu, many people are having their eBay listings removed for these items. eBay is citing the recommendation to reset consoles back to its original settings. This, one would guess, is to prevent identity theft. however, it is a policy that has been loosely monitored up until now.

“Most new video game consoles, that support online gameplay, will save your personal information used for logging into those networks. Before selling your video game console, it is highly recommended to go into the settings area, and reset the console back to factory default settings.”

Reader, Kevin Schumacher, alerted Kokatu to the fact his PS4 console, complete with Silent Hills P.T. had been removed from eBay and the following reasons as to why he could no longer list the item were given:

While eBay have, in the past, been lax about gaming consoles and personal content remaining on them, it seems this is not the first time a company has requested the removal from sale of items that have games installed on them. Last year, Apple iPhones that contained the game, Flappy Bird, were also removed from sale on eBay after phones containing this game were reportedly being auctioned off for as much $100,000.

According to comments made on the original Kokatu article about eBay removing the PS4 consoles, it appears some consider Konami the one to blame and not eBay’s policy. One commenter, Neo Kaiser, says Konami want Silent Hills to disappear completely.

“I don’t know, considering how Konami are going lately I’d wager they contacted eBay to remove those listings specifically so that they can kill PT permanently.”

Another person, who goes by the user name Coco suggests it could just be some sort of new game hype and not eBay’s policy at all.

“Would be a sweet plot twist if all of this is just a clever ploy to generate more hype for the game. Wishful thinking…”

Huh... wish I had thought of that...

4 ≈ One

Good to see that eBay is against these foul practices of scalping.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Good. But in fairness the problem is just as much with the people silly enough to buy the consoles as those smart enough to sell them for a price well over the odds.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

This isn't really scalping though. Scalping would be buying a lot of an item you believe will be limited (or something you can get for a cheaper prica than normal) with the intention of reselling it. This isn't. I say let morons with way too much money on their hands blow it away like that if they want.

I'm curious if there was anybody that actually bought a PS4 with the PT demo for $1000? We've seen the listings but I've never seen anybody actually bid or BIN.

It really does feel sometimes as if Konami wants to generate hype for the game or something.

Send a Friend Request On PSN :P

Aren't demos free? I don't see the deal with this being removed.

What? Creating an internet auction platform and then stopping people for selling their stuff?

That's....not what scalping means.  And I'm not trying to downplay this, as someone who ended up paying $160 for the Warcraft 10th Anniversary Satchel, after they were sold out in the first morning at Blizzcon 2014 ($35 at the show), and could only find them on ebay for insane markups, I'm painfully aware of how shitty scalpers are.  However, the aforementioned scenario, and this are not the same thing.  There was no limited supply of the PT demo, there was simply a deadline for when it wouldn't be offered for download anymore.
