How to get your universe going in the movies by DC Comics:
1) Do a bad Superman film.
2) Do a Batman vs Superman film for the hype.
3) Do a film about villains before the rest of the heroes you have.
4) ...
5) Profit.
Hmm, pie.

There is nothing wrong with the Batman films being dark, but Man of Steel aka Dragon Ball Emo edition was bad. It was filled with story points that didn't make sense. DC is yet to make a good DC universe film for their universe since the dark knight trilogy wasn't part of it. Considering Bats vs Supes looks like another emo man of steel, I ain't keeping my hopes up. Just because it's dark and gritty doesn't make it automatically good either.
The costume quality looks akin to one of those old, campy, weekend, hour action shows from the 90s a la Hercules, Xena or Stargate whatever it was. If that's what they were going for then they hit the nail on the head.
