Although the situation will give the Wii U a big boost, I think the safe bet would be that the 3DS will beat it out still.

But you never know, I think there is a slight chance It will happen.

The 3DS does have a much bigger game launching the same week though.. (Puzzles and Dragons: SMB Edition)

I don't think DQX V3 will push many units as it's an expansion to an MMO. I'd wager mostly existing owners will buy the third version. Also there's a Wii version of DQX V3... XCX is doing meh on COMG (I thought it would be up way more compared to XC). Add to all that, that the 3DS sells much higher normally, regardless of releases... yeah I think the 3DS has this one.

Well most note that XC is a blend of JRPG and WRPG, with some aspects leaning on WRPG. I think part of it is XC isn't as big into super-high production cutscene presentation but that could be a complete coincidence.

Anyway, worth noting is that XCX isn't alone next week, DQX is also lauching next week. So that combo should provide some much needed lift.

What is this DQX release exactly, didn't it release like 2 years ago? Is this some sort of upgrade, or complete edition?

They should provide some lift yes, but still doubt it will outsell 3DS.

They're calling DQX a new version, but I don't know what they mean by that. It's the 3rd version, Wii and Wii U exclussive iirc. And I also doubt it will be enough to outsell 3DS, partly due to the 3DS also having a decent sized title (P&D Super Mario) launch next week as well

No. Even with all the WiiU games coming, the 3DS is just too big in Japan (how many times in the past has it reached 50% marketshare or more in the weekly sales?). But WiiU might get a really nice growth.
