Forums - Sony Discussion - What Does the 360 Price Drop Mean for Sony?

Oh what a surprise, it's our favorite Microsoft "ring-licker" (I can't resist a good double entendre when it presents itself) Mr. Starcraft, back with more drivel and unintelligent banter. Where've you been buddy, we thought you'd gone astray after my last scathing comment.

Hmm, I never recalled saying the Wii was slowing down as fact, but merely an observation. See, I am not like yourself, so consumed by a single product that I cannot see beyond the end of my own nose. I was also clear at the end of my last comment that we'll have to wait on those upcoming numbers to really see how the 360 performed under the new pricing scheme.

Oh, and I think I have improved your signature. Here, take a look.

Console AAA (90%+) games (metacritic):
Sony (PS1, PS2, PS3): 95
Nintendo (N64, GameCube, Wii): 48
Microsoft (Xbox, Xbox 360): 43

I think it's time you flitted away back to your Xbox community and keep living in the fantasy world you currently occupy, where Xbox 360s float above you in a dreamy haze and where the face of Steve Balmer is that of the glowing sun, beaming down upon you all. At least then this thread would stay on bloody topic.
starcraft's been pushing a certain amount of propaganda here, but nothing even remotely close to what you're spewing out. It's like comparing the moon to the sun. I'd talk about your constant denigrating comments, the ad hominem attacks, or the ridiculous historical "comparison"; and I'd particularly take issue with your obsession with anecdotes and the inevitable following denial that you actually meant them to be taken as evidence. But all I can think of is this: it's our favorite Microsoft "ring-licker" (I can't resist a good double entendre when it presents itself) Big words from a man who calls himself benjamin WILL COCK.

Even with a stab at me in there, I've gotta say that is the funniest comment on all of VGC in the last month.

Oh so I'm in the wrong for doing what, exactly? Sticking up for my beliefs when there's hoards of anti-Sony folk spewing their propaganda? At least I don't make a point of venturing into the Microsoft boards to do the same. We're all entitled to our views, but I've said nothing wrong nor done anything to inflame anyone, this is after all a Sony forum. If you read this entire thread back, the problems all came about when Starcraft began attacking other people posting positive Sony comments. I only started to get picky with him when he started doing this. A few people in here beside myself have pointed out what he's been up to. So how am I in the wrong again? Remind me.

Okay, I shouldn't have called him a "ring-licker" that was derogatory and I apologize for that one singular outburst, but for you lot to actually attack me because of my name, well, that's just high school bulling tactics and you ought to be bloody ashamed of yourself. I've never once been nasty or aggressive, just returning serves from people with opposite views. In the civilized world that is called political debate. You've basically just shown yourselves up as complete and utter childish fools who think they can win arguments by resulting to personal name calling. At least I've apologized for my one outburst. I've also, on SEVERAL notable occasions tried to get everything back ON topic so as to avoid this kind of thing from happening, but you lot just wouldn't have it. So who's at wrong now?

My only crime here is that I am a) willing to stand up for my views and not let them fall by the wayside when anti-whatever fanboys come along, and b) I have an unwilling knack for responding back to those sorts of comments when I should know better than to give you more ammunition.

OH THE HYPOCRACY!!! lol. I've never seen someone take themselves or their ideas so seriously. Well, not since Gballzack.

You're one to talk Starcraft. I think you need to read your own comments before saying that lol

Just thought I'd quote this in case he secretely tries to edit the most contradictory post I've ever seen;)

Quote away my friend, quote away. I don't see anything wrong with it myself, seems a well balanced and fair account of what is going on here, you'll also see an apology in there which you seem to have ignored.

PS: You really don't understand the phrase "off-topic" do you? I've told you before, if you want to banter about this sort of thing then make a thread in the off topic board instead of doing it in here. If you feel you have valid points to make about things and you want to continue arguing, by all means I'll meet you there and we'll duke it out For someone with over 2,000 posts I'd have thought you'd be au fait with forum procedure by now. Oh well.

Would that be the apology that came just before calling me and every non-Sony fanboy in this thread:

    -School-boy bullies

    -Bloody shameful

    -Utterly childish fools

I did like you said and reviewed the posts in this thread, starting all the way back at the beginning. What I saw was starcraft being pretty harsh but never making personal attacks or accusations he couldn't back up. The first time I saw anyone step way out of line was this post:

I think Sony would have sold just as many HDTV's without the PS3. As for Blu-Ray, we are yet to see any indication that Sony will make money after the HUGE amounts the sunk into getting the format off the ground.
Wow, you're pretty obsessed about Sony losing money aren't you? What's the matter, can you not accept that Microsoft was embarrassingly defeated with their co-developed HD DVD and that their partners in crime, Toshiba, fled back to Sony and the PS3 leaving ol' Stevie Balmer to pick up the many shattered pieces? Personally I'd be more worried about how much Microsoft will lose on the failed HD DVD platform, now it has sunk to the bottom of the pile and out of existence. Anyone with more than two brain cells floating around in that chunk of grey matter between their ears will know exactly what the Blu-ray victory means for Sony. Roughly translated, it means BILLIONS in their coffers. That's right Mr. Starcraft, billions. The exact thing that Microsoft are losing is what Sony will be gaining. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

I'll look forward to your faux contradictory reply in due course.
Yes, starcraft had been attacking pro-PS3 posts, but he had been doing so with civil argumentation based on fact whereas you preferred to divert the argument into juvenile attacks on Microsoft and Steve Ballmer personally, and to state that anyone who disagrees with you obviously has no brain at all. All this despite the fact that you could easily have pointed to actual numbers or at least made fact-based arguments to support your stance that Blu-ray will reap massive benefits for Sony overall.

Then you spent two or three paragraphs telling stories about how no one in all the stores you looked at was buying 360s but they were buying PS3s and oh I saw Wiis in stock so maybe the shortage is over? And then you have the gall to say it was "merely an observation" as if you didn't mean for your little anecdotes to be taken as real evidence. If that's the case, why tell us about it like that?

On to Page 3. starcraft rebuts, though IMO he misinterpreted your "glass house" comment as applying to assertions about the market instead of his warning to remain civil lest you get banned. Your next post goes right on to compare his posts to bird crap and Uwe Boll movies. I'm not sure which I'd be more insulted by, probably the latter.

I like this: "This thread was, after all, directed at the 360's price drop and whether it would affect Sony's sales, not a battleground for all-out assaults on both sides. We've both said our part, now let's just get back to business." O RLY? Why then did your OP include shots at the 360, going so far as comparing it to the Dreamcast and asking "Something to lose sleep over or just another nail in Microsoft's coffin of desperation?" What kind of idiot are you to not think that that was the opening shot of a flamewar?

As for "attacking you because of your name", I hope you understand that that was a joke to underline the ridiculousness of your attack, especially when you are simultaneously pretending to be a logical and reasonable debater. What happened to "We've both said our part, now let's just get back to business." or "Like I've said a hundred times now, can you please keep on topic" or even "I'm not going to keep arguing with you as it leads to nowhere"?

The simple fact is that while you can argue whether you or starcraft has been the more egregious propagandist (an argument you'll lose, BTW) you CANNOT rationally deny that starcraft's conduct has been civil while yours has been a long string of personal attacks and outrageous insults, not "one singular outburst" as you would like to pretend.

I've also, on SEVERAL notable occasions tried to get everything back ON topic so as to avoid this kind of thing from happening, but you lot just wouldn't have it. So who's at wrong now?
Hmm, let me think. If you say everyone should stop attacking each other, in the same post that you call his posts bird shit and Uwe Boll films, does that mean it's starcraft who is most likely perpetuating the atrocious behavior I've witnessed? With anyone but you I'd consider that a rhetorical question.

Oh, and I like what's happened since I started writing this up, too.

OT:  In the short term, very little.  If the cut is successful long-term, Sony will have to cut as well.
