The question I have is simple: is all the talk about DX12 intended to distract people from the obvious current performance differences between the two consoles? Also will the power upgrades for the Xbox One always be "coming soon" for the duration of the generation?

Battlefield HL
Project Cars
F1
The Witcher 3

This isn't a one off thing. It is systematic.

I'd say the 'DX12 will close the gap' stuff is more of an echo chamber perpetuated by a minority of fans than anything. The majority, MS included, have done more to deny than encourage it.

I'm sure MS would love for everyone to forget the gap exists, but they haven't done anything i'd consider an attempt to 'distract' people. I suppose it could be argued that their openness about upcoming SDK improvements could be considered that, but personally i'm glad they do it (and would like to see Sony do it too).

This ^^

Microsoft keeps repeating over and over that Direct 12 will not make a huge difference and I never heard about any "power upgrades" for the Xbox One coming soon (officially at least, other than some haters trying to make something out of nothing).

All in one I'm very satisfied with my 2 Xbox Ones :)

Now, while the game will look awesome on Xbox One, it will look even better on the PS4, this is nice for the Ps4 owners, right?

We can count on seeing 1080p/60fps games on XB1 starting next year. Apparently it's their new years..

Resolution.

Nice one.

And another exclusive on PS4 :)

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

60fps is more important than resolution in driving games so I don't think it matters that much.

Exclusive? I don't even think it will have exclusive content?

The funny thing is DX12 could actually benefit PS4 a little more than Xbox One. Much like AMD's Mantle it can greatly reduce the cpu load, and PS4 has a slightly slower cpu.

This time last year there was a conference with Xbox power raining out of a cloud http://www.dualshockers.com/2014/04/26/xbox-one-microsoft-claims-cloud-computing-can-provide-power-of-3-xbox-ones-32-xbox-360s/ I haven't been keeping up on the news of updates if I'm honest, but has any game made use of the cloud to add even a single other 360 worth of ability into the X1?

Don't mean to cause offense here, I'm legit quite out of the loop in terms of X1 news.
