I wouldn't expect it anytime soon (or ever). But if it happens, it will only be on the next handheld.

The game was released 5 years after HG/SS, just as HG/SS was released 5 years after FR/LG. Why would they stop now?

Because the first 3 gen were more outdated in every term. I'm not saying they won't remake the 4th gen, only that it isn't guaranteed.

But it's 2015. ORAS just came out. Gold & Silver weren't looking very outdated in 2004, Ruby & Sapphire weren't looking very outdated in 2010. You say now that DS games aren't super outdated and you're right. But by the time Nintendo's next-gen handheld has been out for a few years and we're looking at the seventh generation of Pokemon, it'll be different.

Hmm, seeing how the pattern has been going, a 4th gen remake does seem possible. If and when it`ll come, it`ll be on the NX, or next handheld, whatever it is. There is little chance they will make it N3DS. It`s not a good enough jump in my opinion and it would alienate its fanbase. Not everyone will have a N3DS, so they`re not going to risk doing that, especially with how important it is for the pokemon company for everyone to be able to play together.

I'm talking about mechanics/content. the 4th gen really upped the ante over the previous generations, so I don't think it feels old.
