It makes sense on many levels, like it or not (pun not intended). The possible downside will be that they suddenly face a lot of competition on mobile for the very limited time that most "adults" have to put into games. There are already some real beasts established in the Japanese mobile landscape. I'm interested to see how this turns out.

This could be a very important moment in terms of the Japanese game development for the future. Other publishers and developers will be watching this closely.

Really? Makes sense on many levels to go mobile exclusive? Especially when they announced another game at the same time that was on mobile AND 3DS at the same time.

Aren't they reusing a hell of a lot of assets from the first game? It may well be that it's not coming to 3DS because it's practically a cut up version of the first game that they've branded as a sequel?

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

But of course, their main reason is to make more money... :/

Neh, we will see how it turns out but such a shame though

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

They're doing whatever will make them the most money, as any company would do.

Yeah, this is what I'd suggest too.

It seems they don't see any particular growth for the IP on 3DS so aren't going to go down the avenue of creating a ground-up sequel, and instead are just chopping up the first game and trying it on the mobile market.

It sold very well for a first entry in a new franchise on 3DS, imo, but it's targeting a market that is already there en masse (everything from Animal Crossing to Tomodachi to Rune Factory to Harvest Moon).  The ~ 300k it was capable clearly wasn't something they were too interested in chasing again, however ridiculous that seems.

But such is Level-5 I guess - they're used to selling millions from their successes, not 300k.

doesnt make sense to me

The almighty dollar speaks again. Not that I blame them, necessarily. They have to cater to the largest demographic possible. But since I bought Fantasy Life on 3DS, I'm slightly irked that we'll get a gimped, possibly microtransaction-filled mobile mess for the second game.

It'll be awhile before I figure out how to do one of these. :P

I swear I'm getting a flip phone when my smartphone breaks.

Yet we still don't have a 3DS or Vita Phone. Nintendo and Sony are letting mobile gaming die a terrible death.

I will never buy another Anroid or iOS based device. These things are a cancer to the gaming industry.

We need a 4G 3DS and a 4G Vita. Gamers need to jump on these devices, and use apps like ooVoo, Skype, Whats App, etc. for calling and texting. We can not let Smartphones and Set Top Boxes ruin this industry.
