Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo's new mobile game partner is hit with layoffs

Just because DeNA is struggling doesn't mean that Nintendo is going to be negatively impacted. I mean, AMD makes the graphics chips for the last several Nintendo consoles and they are in a bit of a financial tight-spot right now. It doesn't mean that it was a bad choice to use AMD's services or that the product Nintendo received from AMD would have been any better or worse than what they would have got from NVidia...

I Change titles of articles all the time if I feel they are miss fitting. the title is nothing but click bait.  It should be "DeNA is hit with lay offs". If you insist with nintendo being in it,  a less blatant click bait name would be. "DeNA, nintendo mobile partner, is hit with lay offs. "

If you want to change info on op, that's your choice.

After the "positive" responses I got; especially one directly at me I wont be changing it now.

The article and the title are compltley relevant, particularly given the timing of the layoffs and the announcement of the partnership-  Additionally, Nintendo bought %10 of DeNA as part of the deal= So for beter or for worse the layoffs do effect Nintendo directly and it is a surprising announcement seeing as they are going to be making games with Nintenod IP as part of the partnership-  If anything, one would hav expected more hiring due tot he partnership not layoffs-  so ther is not any reasons for anyone to apologise for the title just because soe of you dont like the news and/or don t seem to understand its significants

Nintendo is making the games, DeNa is providing the backend.

DeNA is also making the games w Nintendos IP  as part of the deal  - ill go back and double check but i beleive DeNA is making most of the games

No, they're not. Nintendo confirmed this already.

If the work with Nintendo is happening in Japan, then the studio closure in Canada and the layoffs in San Fransisco will have little to do with it. If you cut through the corporate-speak in the article, it looks like they're just refocusing their workforce in the West.

What hasn't been reported is that DeNA is apparently still hiring in San Fransisco - mainly in the engineering area. http://www.denajobs.com/positions?engineering

This is unlikely to have anything to do with DeNA struggling and far more likely to be related to restructuring. Their share price has risen by about 60-70% since announcing their partnership with Nintendo.

No wonder you don't like the title. The mobile games will mainly be handled by Nintendo.

Iwata: DeNA also has a strong ability to swiftly analyze relevant data and determine how a service should be evolved in subsequent phases. Accordingly, these activities will be primarily handled by DeNA.

The headline is sensationalized but the way I see it;

DeNA cutting dead weight in order to deliver Nintendo triple A productivity on a mobile platform.

I think they're just shaping up to develop Nintendo badged games. I'm actually happy to read this.

Im still looking for something more specific but what i have read says they are jointly developing apps/games

at this point it is hard to say what caused the layoffs but i don  t think it is good news -  afterall they annouced the news on Fri afternoon which is the time that gets the least anount of pr due to the daily weekly news cycles and markets being closed for the weekend

They def said they are refocusing thier opps in the West-  the question is why-  he markets and business news are pretty good at figuring it out so we will probably get more info and its impact next week-   regardless it s still relevant to Nintendo for better or worse
