And that's the cycle. SMGDLC was made in that way because the failure of the og SMG, later 3DWorld because SMGDLC and for the next years we are going to see new exciting ways to play 3D Mario's.

After the historical failure of Super Mario 3D World, Nintendo will learn that they have to do more ambituous games and not cheap ones like 3D World. Of course they will keep failing, but it will be in the same level of SMG, not as terrible as 3D World.

Hopefully they also learned their lesson with Donkey Kong.

Putting sales aside now, the kind of 3D Mario you want is something like Donkey Kong 64, right?

If you consider DK64 the same kind of SM64, the yes, I do.

Probably Evolve. People were expecting great things from what I saw from the trade shows. But after it launched it was never heard from again.

I made a couple of threads about this regarding 2013 games:

Showing my selections for most disappointing Japanese/Western developed games of the year.  Probably should've done one for 2014 too.

I must have missed those threads. Very interesting.

That really is one of the most stunning drop offs in gaming history, lol.

Shenmue 1

Add "Blur" to that list ... that was the heavily marketed racing sim that made fun of Mario Kart in its commercials and bombed.

It actually was a pretty good game apparently (82% meta score), but it flopped and Activision shut down the studio behind the game.

1st of all, not a Bayonetta 2 thread. Fans Wishful thinking of it selling a million/etc doesn't mean squat in this thread.Im talking about a developer/publishers expectations!

Any game listed doesn't mean it sold bad, just not as close as it was expected to!

Anywayz post away!!!

BTW here are mine!!!

After a good few months of lurking, I've finally had to make an account and reply lol.

Coming from somebody who followed PSAS heavily before launch, won the first PSAS launch contest, led the community for a good seven months, personally emailed SuperBot President Chan Park, and currently run a PSAS fansite, I have to point out that PSAS did NOT underperform according to Sony or SuperBot. They outright said within a few days of launch that the game was performing above expectations, right in the middle of Sony's binge of "we don't comment on rumor or speculation."

The game ended up performing lifetime about what Sony had expected, to the point that support only dropped after they threw in two completely random DLC characters for the sake of cross promotion. When fans boycotted Zeus, Sony saw the sales drop and decided the DLC wasn't worth it.

Considering how wishy-washy Sony is about non-Naughty Dog or Santa Monica games, and considering the rumors that the game was a Powerstone-styled game until a year before launch, the game did quite well

Sorry, misinformation about PSAS really pisses me off, since that was a big part of what killed the game. Now, on-topic: I'd say Fuse was a super disappointment for Insomniac. As far as I know that game didn't even end up breaking 100K. At least we ended up getting SSO and Ratchet 2015 as a resul!

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

Every franchise or company that mocks Mario ends up dying or is on life support.

Sega/Sonic: Genesis does what Nintendont

Crash Bandicoot: hey plumberboy

Blur: the commercial you linked

Square Enix: "give the guys who still make cartridge games a blindfold"

Nintendo always laughs last.
