Doubtful. Even Bayonetta 2 sold more than that. As did Lego Marvel Super Heroes, Skylanders Trap Team, and every Just Dance iteration except 4. Splatoon is an actual Nintendo IP that is getting a big push from them. 250k should be a piece of cake. |
No doubt. I don't see how people think Nintendo's summer push (niche new IP or no) is going to pull less than 1m WW LTD. Do I think it'll pull "MK8" numbers? Not likely. Nintendo's core will take care of it, though.
It has more appeal to the core than "Bayonetta" did - and that game will most likely pull down 1m by 2017. I'm willing to bet "Splatoon" passes 200k in the US by Jan. 1st, 2016. It may even do much better than that.

I'm not too worried about Splatoon. Even if it tanks sales wise... we still get the game in the first place and I'm pretty grateful for that.
I also could be wrong, but aren't pre-order numbers on games going down overall? I know I personally won't ever pre-order a game ever again for a bunch of reasons. Doesn't matter how sure I am I'll like it or how hyped I am for it. Been burned one two many times on that front.
I also believe that Nintendo gamers tend not to pre-order as much as other platform users. Could be wrong here, but pre-order content bonuses aren't really amazing with Nintendo products. Throw in the fact that you can pretty much be 100% guarenteed to be able to find a copy of any first party Nintendo game for at least 2 years after its launch and it doesn't surprise me to see low pre-order numbers for Splatoon.

Interesting point.
