One time I lost my GC memory card, so I started looking for it. After about a month of not finding it, I buy a new one. Lucky me, the next day I found my old one

I recently sold a 2nd GCN card that was acquired in the same way. Lost my old card for months, bought a new one, found my old one within a week.

DQ VII was a great game. The only thing that I had trouble with concerning your topic was when I rescued a PS2 from the grave and was so excited to play Kingdom Hearts but realized I'd need a memory card. I had to wait until I could find some.

I always have a heart attack when I forget where my GameCube memory card is. Fortunately, I always find them in the end.

How the hell can you or anyone hate memorycards?

-hard drives, if the system dies or is broken you need to reinstall everything to pre condition. therefor you lose all your files. Also you cant transfer as easily your save file to another system and all the other restriction with trophies.

- cartridge systems, all of them pretty much rely on a small coin battery. If this battery dies so does your file. Same kind of way for megaCD and sega saturns on system memoies, i think you have to play or turn these system on once a week to recharge the battery there which is a rechargarble battery.

The Memorycard the Playstation introduced was the best way to save your files even today. SNK actually invented the memorycard but they used also coin batteries who will die off, but you can buy thirdparty neogeo memorycards who work like playstation memorycards, having also more space too.

I have only completed Dragon Warrior/Quest VII twice (Once when it was first released and once when i went back and replayed the main games in the series) and i doubt i ever will again to be honest (unless we get the 3DS port) because of the sheer amount of time you have to put into the game! I agree with others though just use your PS3 if you have one, unless your a purist and or wanna enjoy it on the original hardware.

And if the memory card fails? You lose everything which makes it no better than the options given above.

The best storage method is HDD + cloud. If the HDD or system fails, all your saved games are backed up on the cloud regardless and you can start playing as soon as the new system is up and running.

No its not, who would use cloud? Memorycards are the most reliable data storage, i have files who are 20 years old

That's not true. Xbox 360 uses a hard drive and if your console dies you can literally just unclip it and put it in a new console instead. Keep all your files and everything.

Not the newer models

You've got to be joking. Pretty much everyone who uses Steam, PS+ etc. use cloud saves.

So if your house burns down and you lose your memory cards, what happens to your game saves? With cloud storage they're always backed up, even if you physically lose your HDD/memory card.

And if the servers get shut down or your account gets hacked?
