Forums - Sony - Game Informer Opinion - What is the PS4 Going to do this Christmas?

I think the ps4 will be the best selling console this holidays... I know, I know it's really controversial but I will stand my grounds

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

If you already have a PS4, why would you care about there not being many exclusives at a time when there are multiple big third party games releasing every week? Seems better to me to release most exclusives outside of the holidays, which is what Sony is largely doing.

This. I find MS's system of loading everything on the holidays silly. Most of the big AAA game release Sep-Nov. Why would you put an exclusive in there. When people are buying a console they are taking into account the entire library. It might help a little if you have more exclusives fresh on the consumers minds but what matter more around the holidays is deals. That is why the XB1 had a good holiday 2014, people saw it as a good deal. FH2, Sunset OD, MCC had very little to do with it (as shown by the sales of those games).

If someone is buying a new console this year they have a library of over 2 years to consider.

I wholly agree; I've been spacing out, Far Cry 3, Destiny, FC3: Blood Dragon, Bloodborne, Far Cry 4, DLCs, and my PS3 backlog (FFXIII) with the spaced-out releases. It really does me no good to buy 6 games at Christmas and priotize and play them. By the time I'm done with FC 4 and/or BB, the new Destiny DLC will launch; meanwhile, Batman will be out soon after, and I haven't touched MLB: TS or The Order.

I imagine they will announce some smaller titles at E3 that will come out in 2015. I remember LBP3 was announced at E3 last year and came out after a few months. Also at the end of the day it's multiplats that do the majority of the heavy lifting.

Let's be realistic here, I can't see anything other than CoD competing against Halo 5 this holiday season.

arealthough having a big release during holiday period is great for sales, people forget there are people who will buy bundles for games released earlier in the year but who waited for holiday to buy as gifts, Pricing etc.

Ratchet could be huge for families with kids as well as Tearaway.

Bloodborne will surely be packaged as a must have.

Gow3 will probably get a bundle for all the people who missed it because they didn't own a Ps3.

I'm sure DriveClub will be rebundled since it is a whole new game since launch and will probably have a complete edition with the first years season pass content.

I do agree it is missing that big holiday season blockbuster, especially for those who already own the system and have played many of the exclusives released throughout the year.

Personally I'm hoping for an uncharted collection.

PS4 doesn't need exclusives to sell at this point. The brand is too strong and every multiplat is selling the most on PS4. They will lower the price and keep the momentum. The success of PS4 this holiday never hinged on Uncharted 4.

Of course for us forum dwellers it'd be nice to have a exclusive or 2-3, but PS4 will sell regardless. There's CoD, Fifa, AC, MGS, Batman and who knows what other multiplat (Fallout 4?!).

Ms has officially convinced the major gaming sites that it's only the holidays that matter. The fact they bring this up in April (lol) shows that. Ah well. In my honest opinion Sony had a backup plan to delaying uncharted and I'm certain we'll be seeing a AAA exclusive this Christmas. I'm also thinking driveclub PS+ will be handed out to bolster positive PR

And what does a company do when it knows that? It sits on its biggest exclusives and waits for when they need them. People are currently falling over themselves to find some way of looking on the bleak side of the PS4 but in the real world, the world that Sony inhabit, it's all roses and bank accounts.

People REALLY do need to stop following trends the media are trying to set in motion and just look at reality. 'Should we write articles about the XB1 having no games?', 'No, let's write articles about Christmas instead, that way we can keep the PS4 has no games narrative alive.' It's frankly pathetic, and TOO obvious for words.

And I've just realised I'd better point out that I'm not suggesting the XB1 has no games because it has, just like the PS4 had games when the media were (and still are trying to) push the 'no game' narrative for the PS4 . I'm just making a point.

The PS5 Exists.

The big holiday blockbuster will be a pricecut. They will advertise all the existing exclusives that have been released up to that point - all patched and fully functional - as well as the margianally superior versions of multiplats. Games for the kids - Ratchet, Knack, Tearaway; games for the casual - 1886, Until Dawn, inFamous; games for the hardcore - Bloodborne, Disgaea 5; etc, etc.

Exclusives are the main reason I entered console gaming after a long time. For me exclusives are important. Last year Xbox One got halo MCC (it had issues but SP mode was enough), forza horizon 2 and sunset overdrive. We got DC and quick cash grab lbp3. And I am not interested in yearly rehashes COD, AC (will never touch AC after playing unity). Currently I m loving bloodborne but holiday scares me. If I had to rely on multiplatforms then I would have gone PC only gamer.

WHO CARES when the game comes out. Sony has interesting exclusives every year.... They just spread them out.
