The solution? Nintendo shouldn't localize these games.

Ever since Evil Within and Alien Isolation released the internet was abuzz with talk of the horror genre reviving.
But no doubt since its a Wii U exclusive, and due to the mass hype of the other games I listed, Fatal Frame 5 will sell about 500k in the West.
I want it to sell more, much more though, but hey atleast we are getting it at all.

500k would be amazing. I reiliterate: 160k is what the most acclaimed and highest selling Fatal Frame did on the PS2 in the West.

Yeah I know, im just factoring in;
-'Apparent' revival of interest in horror games
-The large attention it has been gathering since originally not being localised
-and Wii U owners/Nintendo fans wanting a new game to play

I think this will help it the most. There will be less competition on Wii U than PS2 for Suvivor Horror games as well as games in general. I can see it doing 200-300k in the West lifetime, which would be impressive.
It should crack 500k worldwide. The Fatal Frame movie should be a factor in its success. Nintendo needs to advertise the crap outta this on the Teen stuff. MTV and the like. I actually think that since there is no game like it on Wii U should be a factor in its success. I know that I plan on buying it.
I'll do my part and buy 3 copies, and I don't even own a WiiU. I'm a big fan of FF and horror games in general, so I would like the franchise to continue in the west.

Is a skimpy outfit really any different from those shower scenes in the long run? If anything, it might improve the horror vibe, your concentration would be on your character instead of on scanning the area ahead for potential scares, meaning you'll get surprised alot more often. BTW, pretty sure those outfits are optional, you can wear the default outfits the whole game if you want to. |
Yes it is. In those movies the shower scenes give context. In this, the lingerie goes to completely contradict the context. There's no defending that. There being a Ronald McDonald costume would just as rediculous. The fact that the costumes are optional is the problem. If the context for them wearing the lingerie was because the character was a stripper who was abducted from a strip club or she was dressing up for her boyfriend on their anniversary when something horrific happened, then there would be credibility to the outfit, and disbelief could be suspended. In reality, there is absolutely no context for why they're in lingerie explicitely because the outfits are optional, so the girls are effectively dressing like whores for the sole purpose of pandering to perverts.
There's nothing scary about that, and it's mere existance is destracting from the point and over all quality of the game, which is supposed to be to scare you.

... because you're posting on a video game sales website.
On top of the fact that sales success means that you'll see more of the series you like.

This could beat it if Nintendo gets the hype up. Kind of the Monster Hunter factor, where Nintendo's push singlehandedly boosted the game's presence in the West.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
