I don't know why you editted out the rest of the post, can you please not omit pertinent information when having a discussion based on the text?

"Now MS is working on their own streaming device that 'hint hint' specifically looks at PC to TV streaming. PC being where all the Xbox games suddenly are available.
MS has no need for a box."

Yes you are right. These devices are all streaming from phones, with phone graphics. They are not on par with xbox1 or PC. But MS is coming out with a device that would stream from PC. Therefore, your argument doesn't hold up because once the product is available, it invalidates your objection...because there would be a device capable. (again, MS is actually doing this. I didn't post a link just for fun)

I didn't edit out anything, that was your whole post I quoted xD

PC streaming services still aren't ready to be implemented, Nvidia's recently announced streaming service has 150ms lag, far too much lag for many genres of games, and that's on a good internet connection, can you imagine how much lag someone living in a rural area that only has access to satellite internet would get?  I agree that streaming services will be quite popular eventually, but I don't think that'll be until next-gen at the earliest, the internet infrastructure just isn't there yet. But you act like this will only affect Xbox, eventually Playstation will be largely obsolete as well, it'll also be replaced by streaming services eventually.

I apologize, I see I made two posts with the same line, probably because I copying and pasting from another thread.

mmm...You're slightly mistaken. Nvidia cloud is an internet based streaming service. The dongle MS is working on is a PC to TV streaming, similarly to how Chromecast can stream from an Ipad to a tv with a tenth of that latency. There is no internet connection involved here, it's just a dongle, ike the others that additionally has the power of a PC (from your office or den) streaming to it. So far as I know, none of the current dongles do that, aside from one that Valve is coming out with later in the year.

Also, I agree that playstation will eventually be replaced by some streaming service or another. They've already started actually. They are the first to begin the transition to streaming. However, the ps4 is also making them a ton of money, and is profitable on the hardware, so there is no imminent need to completely transition, nor as you said, is the internet infrastructure available.

I thought that Microsoft said this was only done to help people who were confused windows customers thinking they could only use Xbox Music and video on Xbox consoles and not PC ?

Could be wrong.

Windows 10 has seemingly dropped the xbox brand name from their xboxmusic and xboxvideo apps.

This is just another addition to a long list of Microsoft differentiating itself from the xbox brand.

Just for the sake for clarity, it makes sense to drop the brand name, but at the same time, it's also -dropping the brand name.

Not long now folks.

I read something on this yesterday that says the part that you are mentioning is just the media player, not the service.  It mentioned that to buy music or movies,        you will still need to go through the XBOX store...

It is near the end of the end....

Thanks landguy.
however I believe that the Xbox store part was in reference to the streaming capabilities from the Xbox itself.
regardless, i wonder if they will change the name of Xbox store to something else.

I'm glad this was done. It didn't make sense. I mean, to put your brand name on a service, it MUST be a very awesome service. And Xbox Music is just... normal.

I hope PlayStation changes the "PlayStation Video" as well. It's a very hollow software. Music Unlimited was transformed into PlayStation Music feat. Spotify so I use it all the time now. A partnership of the same kind with PS Video would be great.

3DS, Wii, PSP, Vita, PS2, PS3, PS4 & Steam.

Company change branding for various reasons and a lot of them people will have no clue why they do it. Most times branding is done to lesson confusion by the consumer. Naming all their services Xbox would be confusing if people believe that they need an Xbox for the service. Since MS is trying to put their services on just about any device these days. Branding the services other than Xbox might be the smart move.

Trying to link this as MS disassociating themselves with the Xbox seems way to early, especially with all the integration being done with Win 10.

This post is more of a stab in the dark to support an opinion then any real facts or position from MS.

I would agree if this were a lone decision then it would be too early. However, this is simply the latest in a long line of disassociation. I posted the events above. I believe MS are planning to leapfrog all the current thumbdrive streaming devices by getting AAA games streamed from PC. Most people would say that is an extremely wise business decision.

I would certainly buy a 99$ thumbdrive that could stream my windows games to tv. Currently, that doesn't exist at that pricepoint. MS have patents and bought a technology sepcifically for that purpose. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems pretty obvious.

Sorry about the last part, just noticed the moderator saying no attack and that kind of was a attack.

If you say so. Not to belittle in any respect, but I saw it more like you were just expressing what it looked like to you. That's completely fine with me. I appreciate that you attacked the argument, rather than my character.
