Forums - Sony - Sony Planning To Make It Easier For Devs To Implement AF In PS4 Games

So they're basically saying developers are idiots?

That's what I would say.

AF has had near zero impact on performance on litterally all modern GPU's released for the past 6 years, and yet it makes games look WAY BETTER.  Hell my cell phone doesn't even get a noticable drop in FPS on my PSP emulator when I add AFx16 to games.

Fact: The PS4 has modern and capable hardware.  The equivalent of a $160 GPU and a $100 CPU + WAY above average memory.  If a dev doesn't use AF then they are just flat out morons.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

What it boils down to is lazyness.

On a more technical side, what it boils down to is currently, an extra step needed to change the default AF configuration, an extra step that is being left out by developers, one that doesn't actually use a great deal of power when done, but is an extra step not needed for PC/XBO currently.

The post launch patches that fix AF issues with no impact to overall performance underline how mundane this issue really is.
Link a TS, setup your chain, compile, job done.

Depressing that in this day and age devs need their hands holding so much to get the job done.

Amen.  Honestly I think its the same reason not every game is 1080p on both consoles.  If they would take the time to adjust settings both consoles could run every game out now in 1080p.  Sure the X1 would have its setting tweaked down a lot more than the PS4's, but they would both look better.

Instead the devs just make one game and set the PS4 to 900p and the X1 to 720p because it takes no time at all to do.  Then they throw out some of the X1's textures to make it fit on the ESRAM.

Lazy morons.

Is that something they could patch in later on?
I havent got any of those Unreal engine games yet, but im planning to get dying light.

Yes, it's a very simple process, too.

Because devs do not want their games to look good right? Resolution is EXTREMELY important but it is not the only important thing

It's just flat out silly that they aren't using 1080p in every game.  My laptop has a GPU inbetween the strength of the PS4 and X1, and there isn't one game that can't be run just fine in 1080p.  Sure I may have to lower some settings, but the end result is just flat out better in 1080p.  You just can't see the extra details at the lower resolutions.

I generally agree with you but that is not the way it works. If the textures are garbage then raising the resolution wont make them look any better.

Play Gears of War 1 at 1080p on PC

then play Gears of War 4 on Xbox One at 720p and I can assure you Gears 4 will look better

link or april joke

Yeah and it's not like these consoles have enough RAM for big textures /s

That's just one more reason they should be in 1080p.  Using lower resolutions negates the biggest advantage these things have!

?, you do not seem to understand how graphics work. Ram is not all you need when you display textures the GPU has to do the work as well.

Gameplay > Textures > resolution

Also the Xbox One really does not have much ram. DDR3 ram is slooooow
