Forums - Nintendo - Online with the Wii: How does it work?

I actually prefer WiFi and no voicechat, because my modem and router are in a central location, but my consoles are not. And turning off voice-chat is always the first step for me in multiplayer - hearing slurs from prepubescents adds nothing to my experience.

The worst part of the wii is that they have wifi instead of an ethernet port. Thats one way to cut out over 90% of wii owners from going online. And going online with wifi sucks i could never figure the shit out, the stupid guides never work.

What? I'm pretty positive Wii supports connection through ethernet adapter. Are you pulling this out of your ass or what?

You can use a USB to ethernet connection Griffin... I think you have to buy it online (not sold in shops for some reason) but it is possible.

However there would be no way for me (and a lot of people) to connect via wire because it would have to go from one corner of my room across to my door, along the hall and into my parents room then to the other side of that to get to the modem.

It is sold at stores. And most people don't have an either net cord in there living room so Wirless works great for most people. Also there is like a billion ways to set up your wireless.

Your theories are the worst kind of popular tripe, your methods are sloppy, and your conclusions are highly questionable! You are a poor scientist. Especially if you think the moon landing was faked.

But Nintendo should of included an ethernet port, now people need to spend an additonal $30 to buy some adapter.  And i have tried to get my wireless to work on my consoles, i have follwed all the guides about entering the wep codes or the SSiD and the wifi still won't connect.

I hate dealing with wireless networks as well but the problem is probably with the network not the Wii.

Yes the either net port would be nice especially for the stability.

Try turning off your securities.

have you heard of a lan adapter,?

and the guy asked, How do I add friends and play online?

he did not say how the wii internet is

It looks like the Sony fanboys are taking advantage of Brawl to go into frothing tantrums about how they don't know how to connect the Wii they don't own to the internet.

Apparently for many in this thread, going to Wii system settings, accessing the internet settings and setting up a wireless connection is rocket science. I could understand having troublewith friend codes because it's out of the way (you have to wii messages to access the address book), but the way people in here are screaming you'd think they hadnever set up an internet connection before. Or maybe I'm just really, really smart.

Yes, he is, since it's been reported that 40% of wii users have connected their Wii to the Internet.

Now, to get back to answering the original post, you add friends by inputting their Wii system codes.  Just go into your address book on the Wii message board and type them in.  You can also find your own system code in the address book to give to your friends.

Some online games have their own friend codes, others don't.  The procedure is pretty much the same, though, enter your friends' codes and have them enter yours.

You can buy the Wii USB Ethernet Adapter in stores. Just certain stores though. The GameStop near me has 'em.
