Dat title (AMad? Lawl)

Honestly, if this is what it takes for AMD to be alive, so be it imo. Competition is good and without AMD, both intel and Nvidia would have a monopoly in their respective sections

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

I believe it's AMD isn't it?

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

wish it was the other way around

Don't know how I feel about this one.

I thought Samsung were pulling out of x86 hardware but now they are interested in buying a mainly x86 technology company. If AMD chipsets are strongly linked to a brand like Samsung who are directly at retail surely that could be quite damaging.

If they do buy it they would be better off separating it off from Samsung into a separate company.

I hope it's not true.

Don't get me wrong, both of them would greatly benefit from this: Samsung (getting atents and an x86 license and AMD getting money, but what about us? Would the Samsung owned AMD still commit to make desktop CPUs and high end graphic cards, markets where Samsung have shown no interest?

Please excuse my bad English.

Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Current gaming PC: R5-7600, 32GB RAM 6000MT/s (CL30) and a RX 9060XT 16GB

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

I think this can be very good. Samsung has the resources, factories, everything needed to make a great x86 processor. AMD cannot compete with Intel's resources and are severely behind in IPC.

Problem isthe X86 license, which would be gone as it is valid for AMD and AMD only and not transmutable after a buyout or a merger (unless AMD is the buyer, not the bought one, of course). In other words, it would not only kill most of AMD apart from their ARM Server chips and Grapics cards, it would also forcefully end the production of the chips in the PS4 and Xbox ONE consoles as they are dependent on it's code in their architecture.

Unless Intel would get forced to open the license to everybody, of course. But even then it would take a long court action before this even would happen.

So no, I don't see it happen. And it's not the first time such rumours emerged, far from it.

Why wouldn't they?
