Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo going mobile was NOT their most important announcement.

As long as they don't put elements that were free under a paywall (ejem multiplayer ejem), It would work. Hell, I may be interesten in one.

Same here. I would subscribe just to see what games Nintendo selects every month. I can already see myself waiting in front of my computer screen for them to anounce which games we'll get this month, only to react with: 'Dammit, I already own those... Ah well, there's always NEXT month'

I think it has at least 1,5 more years ahead of it. I'm mostly hoping they bring some JP only games to the West: Great Ace Attorney, DQ VII,FF Explorers, Style Savy 3... Apart from that... A few years ago Monolith was working on a 3DS Baten Kaitos, before it got canned... I would love for them to still make that happen . And Metroid... Sure... But didn't a 3DS Metroid game they were working on get cancelled as well?

When I said "on it's last legs," I meant 1-1.5 years lol. I think we'll definitely see the successor next year.  I'm sure we'll get a few good swan songs, but I think most of their teams are working now on the unified platform games. That's why the 3DS this year is lacking so much new first party content. Mostly everything is a port.

Lol. Then I completely agree. Fire Emblem is also a good case in point, because it uses the same graphics as the previous one. It's cheaper to make, and doesn't divert the main team from their next big project.

It would when the discounts you could get are incremental. A bit like a Playstation sale with or without Plus discounts. You lure them in for free, show them how much they are NOT saving by not paying a monthly/yearly fee, and BAM... They're hooked! 😄

I don't think Nintendo are doing that. Expecially not with the image they want to keep for parents. Nintendo is a toy. You don't sell your toys on a susbcription. Like I said, they're going more Steam than PS Plus. It's more Nintendo like. They'll make plenty money.

PS Plus is good for maintaining a constant stream of revenue. A free rewards system like the one they're likely to do is good for organically raising attach rate. Rewarding people who buy more games with cheaper ways to buy more games creates the "Steam problem," where your customer kind of becomes addicted to the idea of having more games just for the sake of having them. Nintendo benefits from that much more than Sony would.

You are probably right, but still... You also don't let children play with your toys for free, only to charge them small sums of money if they want to keep playing, right? With DeNa at the helm this is what we'll see as well.

What I would think is interesting myself is the rewards system you are talking about, but maybe even take it a step further. When you play (and pay) enough of their ftp titles on the app you get a virtual console game on any system for free (selected by the big N of course). Like this you would be able to build up a catalog of games you can play on a system you might not have yet, which could entice you to buy that system.

Now if this is one part of the program, meant for the casuals, Nintendo might as well make a program for their core audience which isnt interested in mobile. These people could pay a subscription price to get the same rewards as people who play a lot of mobile games withouth having to play the mobile games they so loath. They could get the same virtual console games this way.

Both types of accounts give you discounts on the eshop, but payed subscribers get a slightly bigger discount.

This is what I mean by that both can work next to each other.

But you are right that it might not be something they'd go for because of the image they want to uphold

DeNA wasn't bought by Nintendo. They just own 10% of the shares.

Just saying.

It's still a big chunk, though. If I remember correctly, it makes them the second largest shareholder of DeNA after its founder, and that's 13%.

DeNA and Nintendo might have invested the same amount of money in one another's shares, but in contrast, DeNA's share ownership amounts to about 1% of Nintendo.

This is why DeNA was bought.

Is your body ready?

DeNA wasn't bought. Nintendo now owns 10%-ish of their stock as part of their business collaboration.

Edit: Woops, totally late to that party. OP, think you can edit that part of the text?

To be fair, I did tell you about the mobile thing over 6 months ago.

Anyway, as far as the OP goes, It's an interesting perspective, but i think the scopes a bit too wide for what Nintendo has in mind for mobile currently, I see the arrangement with DeNA a way of dipping in their toes without fully comitting to it, to test the waters and see how their fans, and potential new customers react, but more importantly, how the shareholders respond as it's been a request from major shareholders of Nintendo for them to open up to the Mobile market for some time now.

Until the ball gets rolling and we see the initial feedback from it, I don't think it would be wise to make any solid estimations on how far reaching, or limited the initiative will be.

Man this site really sucks on mobile...

I think you both are right; I think Nintendo is fully committed to this DEAL with DeNA, since both habe bought pretty big chunls pf each others companies. However, that doesnt mean Nintendo will start pumping out mobile games at a fast paste rate. I think theyll dip their toes first, like Tachikoma said, but theyll do so with a solid effort, or maybe two. Theyll take a watch-and-see approach at first and if their mobile adventure is successful theyll commit 100%.

But I also think theyre 100% dedicated to make this replacement to Club Nintendo a big thing from the get go. This unified account system is the big thing, the major part, of this deal. THATS what Nintendo first and foremost wanna make successful (ly)

You told me a year ago that Nintendo and Sony were teaming up to make a smartphone...
