Video games are not supposed to be realistic. Look at Call of Duty which prides itself on being the most popular realistic FPS on the market yet it takes 14 shots to the head to kill someone. As for good mature games this gen, Sunset Overdrive comes to mind. I've also heard a lot of good things about Dragon Age: Inquisition and well we have Bloodborne releasing tomorrow!
People seem obsessive about the opinions of others, which are objectively worthless...as is this thread.

The perception that Nintendo and their game are 'for kids' was built by Nintendo themselves. The majority of us here know better, but if you're only part of the general market then it's an easy assumption to make, especially when Nintendo continually reinforce it.
It's hardly something limited to Nintendo though. Despite Sony and MS (and many other publishers) marketing more broadly, their 'colourful' (i assume you mean cartoony by this) games are still frequently labelled as being for kids. They just don't make as many of them as Nintendo, so the opinion appears less pronounced. There are some in the core market that do follow the generalization in the OT, but for the most part they're just a memorable minority.
It is fun to watch those minorities battle though. Availability tends to play a significant role, which is why you're more likely to see a Sony/MS fan make a negative generalization about 'cartoony' games, and Nintendo fans one about 'mature' games. You will then see both sides criticize the other for making generalizations :p

Bloodborne, Alien Isolation, PT, The Evil Within
To me, there is no such thing as a "mature" game. Games are for the young at heart. To be enjoyed like movies. If you're too single-minded to look past a brand or an image, or bring maturity into an argument over video games of all things, then you've got a lot of maturing to do.
I've noticed that whenever Nintendo gets something good, fans of other systems are quick to hate on it. I saw it with Bayonetta 2, and the countless "it's unplayable" frames-per-second videos on Youtube. People wrote it off before it's release and wanted the game to fail. But then, whenever an other system gets something good, some smug smart arse will throw out lowbrow insults and catty remarks at it.
I'm looking at you, ExplodingBlock.

Look at it like this, you're not going to pick up a lady by telling her you're a Pokemon master. And you're also not getting her by telling her you're untouchable at COD, or spend your time online running around Los Santos with your clan.

Ummm. I need some details on it. Personally, I don't like colorful games or games with exaggerated colors regardless of what console it's on.

sunset overdrive is a mature game? played abit on a friends xbone, it wasnt mature at all, i dont know about the story, didnt realy cared for it while playing, the gameplay is a lot of fun. maybe the story is deep and mature, but i dont think so.
and dragon age isnt mature at all, its classic teenage fanatsy, and its very good at it, but its not mature. and we havnt played bloodborne...

You already explained it. A high percentage of games in Nintendo consoles are colorful and the perceived child demo(look at their ratings).
THe Sony/M$ consoles have a huge amount of multiplats that are teen/mature rated along with the exclusives that primarily hit the same demo. If a game is released outside that grouping, it is hailed as fresh in comparison....
It is near the end of the end....
