Forums - Gaming - PSVue $50/No ABC

"For most Vue users, that $50 package should be sufficient, as it covers a whole host of some of the most popular channels you’ll get in any cable package. It includes local broadcast channels from NBC, Fox, and CBS as well as cable networks like TNT, TBS, USA, MTV, Animal Planet, BET, FX, Comedy Central, AMC (starting next month), and many more. It’s an impressive lineup — when I thought about how I use cable TV currently, I realized that the entry level Vue package would cover a huge chunk of the shows I like to keep up with.

Unfortunately, there’s one huge hole in Sony’s lineup — ABC. That means no ESPN, no Disney, or even the local ABC affiliate so you can keep up with Modern Family. It’s a real shame, as it keeps Vue from truly being a one-stop service you can use to cut the cord for good — we’re keeping our fingers crossed that ABC and Sony will be able to come to an agreement sooner than later."

Damn $50. I may stick to SLickTV on Xbone for the $20 per month and it has ESPN

PSN & XBOX GT : cutzman25

Ah, this is sad. I was really hoping for a-la-carte options. Bundled packages are a major problem with TV, Sony should have taken a swing and forced a-la carte.

Bundled media is on deathwatch. Sony have basically given a time limit to their new business model, unless they are unwilling to unbundle down the line.

Hhhmmm... That seems alright to me. If by the time it reaches my area they have expanded the service to more devices, and they end up offering our local sports network (which seems pretty likely honestly, though in the second tier) then I'm certainly willing to look into switching.

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Yep.

Whats the point of replacing cable bundles with online bundles?  I said this the other day when talking about Apple and its new plans.

People happy with bundles stay where they are, people wanting a la carte wont want thins.  So who is this and Apples offering for?

Well, I can't speak for everyone. But in my own case, my cable service (Comcast) is pretty awful. It goes out like 3 times a week, the U.I. is slow and unintuitive, and it costs about twice as much as this would with the regional sports channels. So I could think of a few good reasons to jump ship.

it's a lot more than price that turns me off to cable.  the biggest reason i cut out cable was the whole having to watch a show live thing.  i want my content on demand.  yeah yeah dvrs help for sure but comcast charges extra for that in my area at least and the larger the hard drive the large the cost and even the biggest one is still measured in 10s of hours and can't have programing conflicts.

sony is offering unlimited recording with no programing conflicts for 28 days. throw in no contracts and not doubling costs after the first 6 months and a "installation fee",..  that already fixes most of my problems with comcast.   still a bit expensive for my taste but also half-ish what cable costs in my area it's certainly competitive.

no no, this is fantastic in a lot of ways.  the obvious downfall is only being on playstation right now.  i mean that works for me as i already have a ps4 but that $400 is a lot of upfront cost for someone not interested in a ps4 for gaming.  sony needs this to come to roku and chromcast and whatever else for this to be a really compelling offer.

$70 for their "Elite" channel tier. I think I'll stick with FIOS.

Wow, those prices...are insane...$50 for just TV.
I am so happy that for €30 I can get unlimited phone, unlimited internet and a 100 TV channels...and I am seriously thinking of switching to a more affordable provider.

True. But sling TV plus ESPN costs?

I was watching Bloomberg discuss Apple TV and this seems to have the same issues.

But that's not really it, is it? Sling TV has 20 channels vs. 53 here. Sling has no DVR, very little on demand programing, and is limited to one device at a time.

Vue allows you to save any shows you want, you can also pause and rewind live TV, you can fast forward through commericals on On-demand content, and you can watch tv on up to 3 devices at a time, plus sony has said that number will go up as more devices come on line.

On top of all that, Sling only allows access to one "watch anywhere" tv app. Vue offers 10 with 35 more "coming soon".
