LO wont make 1millions sales and it obviouse as JRPG dont have long legs just great first months. LO is a good game for people who like traditional Jrpgs with great storys. I will be getting this game from gamefly whenever it available again or I see it on sale

Somehow i doubt that LO is better than FFVII, to say that is just madness!

Selnor, the way you speak about this game people might start to think that you are getting paid to promote it... lol

definetly not better than ff7. or w.e

but this game makes me want to get my 360 back. i love the commercial.

Lost Odyssey is GREAT, but NOT that great.

It is the best "Next Gen" RPG, (and one of my overall favorite next gen games), but it is not better than FFVII or even FFX or FFXII. In fact many ps2 RPG's are better in my opinion. Maybe not graphically, but as far as story, epicness, imersion, battle system, etc.

What I do love about Lost Odyssey is the character development. The actual story is weak and slow, but the characters are wonderful and lovable.

A great game...I'd give it an 8.5/10 personally.

Remember about the Gamerankings score....Reviewers were sent faulty copies of the game.

Since that huge error was found, more recent reviewers have increased their scores accordingly (it was at 74%, then jumped to 79 in a matter of a few reviews).

Being better than game A or B is merely subjective. Blue Dragon (for me) was better than some Final Fantasies, worse than others...And that was just BD.

As for the sales comparison, Dallinor, that's a joke. Your comparing a Final Fantasy which was revolutionary at the time, on a system that had a 100million instal base versus a system that might reach 50 million - and very few of which live in Japan...

And despite that, LO might still break 1m thanks to US and European sales.

Using sales as a justification for quality is never a good thing. The gaming industry is riddled with quality titles that bomb. As for the revolution, the only thing revolutionary about FFVII was the large ad campaign it received. Something that no RPG before it received outside of Japan. Phantasy Star I was revolutionary but it didn't exactly light up the sales charts. Phantasy Star I had a female lead character multiple worlds, 3D dungeons, cinematics, multiple character parties etc. All that in 1988 was revolutionary.

I've played hundreds of RPGs from NES to 360 and I've *still* got a backlog of 7 or 8 on the PS2 to finish. Some information I will provide the philistines and unbelievers from my vast experience:

1. Xenogears is one of the greatest JRPGs ever made, every bit as deserving of top honors as games like Chrono Cross and Final Fantasy

2. Suikoden II is a masterpiece, and you probably never played it because Suikoden 1 was definitely NOT.

3. Valkyrie Profile was a PS1 latecomer (around 2000) that excelled on all fronts, and was unfortunately only played by few

4. Lost Odyssey is the best RPG I have played in a few years, and definitely the best RPG currently available for a next gen system. I would still rank FF4 and FF6 above it, as well as Xenogears, but it is a superb game and did not deserve the poor scores some reviewers gave it. When you punish a game for being loyal to its genre, you have lost whatever objectivity and credibility your review may have had.

Sansui you have hit the nail on the head. I am damn sick and tired of reviewers, particularly in the West, bagging on JRPGs for being JRPG's.

Better than FFVII? No. And I do own Lost Odyssey.

You ... you ...

... you own a 360???

Wow. Guys, I'm telling you how I feel. People think that because FF6 and 7 were awesome games in JRPG genre that every FF game is good.

I'll admit that as I'm currently 13.5 hours into lost odyessey I may change my view but so far I stand by what my original post said. I know I'm not the only one who thinks it.

Some people find it hard to believe that an awesome product can be bettered in time.
Star Wars Fans will tell you that Star Wars will never be beaten. It will, but there will be those who cant let go.

That will be the same for whatever your fave game is. It will never change because you dont want it to.

I love the Genre not a name. Hell when I played Grandia 2 it's battle system pissed all over FF's. And I can admit that FF10 and in particular 12 were poor games. Dreary and boring. But 6,7 and 9 were awesome.

Anyways that's my piece.

Lost Odyssey is a pretty decent game. It's the first decent RPG we've had in a long time and the best 'next-gen' RPG by miles. But some people are just going nuts over this game so it's nice to see a bit of levity. I suppose a 'good' game can look 'great' when it's swimming in a sea of mediocrity. There are a large number of PS2 RPGs much better than Lost Odyssey.

I just reached the fourth disc and I'm about 29.5 hours into it and I'd give it an 8 so far. Definitely worth the time of a JRPG afficianado but not the second coming, so to speak.
