Forums - Sales - How Important is FF Type-0 Performance on XB1?

We have seen 3rd party publisher see sales of a port and determine their audience is not on a console (See just about everything 3rd party and the WiiU)

I think if T-0 performs poorly on the XB1 it will put Sony in a strong bargaining position to get Square exlcusives (not FF XV, that will be multi-console, KH also has a strong western appeal so I cant see that as exclusive). Square has been praising the PS4 alot lately too.

PS4 will have

T-0 in march

FFX/X2 in may

FF14 ARR expansion in June (or was it july)

XB1 has Type-0

The PS4 already had most of the FF audience in their corner, but it seems Sony is making a concerted effort prior to FF XV to makes sure they have the fanbase on lockdown. Type-0 is the only chance XB1 has to show it can sell a JRPG before the big one arrives and if FF XV has underwelming sales Sony will be able to lockdown not just Square, but most anything coming out of Japan.

I have said this before but it looks like it is more and more coming true, I think this GEN will look like GEN 5 in console sales distribution and in the type of games on said consoles (main difference western devs are MUCH bigger now)

PS4=PS1

XB1=N64

WiiU=Saturn

Hope it just allows them to have a few additional sales and is profitable for SE. I don't expect much from the majority of Xbox fans.

However I bought it on Xbox One as I know TiagoCosta did

The success of Type-0 doesn't mean much for big titles like FFXV. However, niche titles like Drakengard may end up being exclusive to PS4 if the market isn't attractive on Xbox.

Do they need to pay for exclusivity when the games dont help Xbox anyway?

hoggin' all the action, I see...

They would probably be exclusive in japan only and continue to be multiplatform in the west. But thats only for very popular jrpg like Final Fantasy and not just any final fantasy at that

Well they had an good jrpg on the past with 360, but it doesn't help selling the game nor getting the hardware boost, it just dividing the rpg audience into two place and halt PS3 sales from loyal jrpg fans. Xbox market is not into JRPG. Even if they willing to make JRPG exclusively for ONE, it will be for charity for small fan base because making games is expensive, and it will just confuse it's audience.

"We have seen 3rd party publisher see sales of a port and determine their audience is not on a console (See just about everything 3rd party and the WiiU)"

First, that's completely wrong.

With that out of the way, I say type 0 performance on X1 is irrelevant for future support. After all, square is supporting it despite things like lower sales of previous games and inexistent x1 presence in japan. MS is clearly giving Square some in$entive to keep getting the games.

Not very. If FFXV struggled to sell that would be a different story but I don't think Type 0 will be reflection of XV sales, not even ratio wise.
