| Mr Khan said: It would be a terrible, terrible idea. The mobile games need to be either spinoffs or different IP which play nothing like what is available on the dedicated platforms. Give the people Super Mario Bros. mobile and they aren't going to want New Super Mario Bros NX. The console games need to stay console games. |
That may be how we feel as console gamers, but that won't always make sense for Nintendo as a business. If [game x] could generate several magnitudes more profit on mobile, why wouldn't they at least port it? Sure, they might have taken away a reason to own the console, but they'd also have significantly more money to fund new titles that could only work on their handheld/home console. I'd see than as a win-win for both us and Nintendo.
I don't really expect Nintendo to do that though, at least not right now. They'll probably just spend the next few years testing the waters and seeing what does and doesn't work (that 'win-win' requires the mobile version's profitability to outweigh the negative of taking it away from the console after all).
