Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo and mobile company DeNA form alliance, will make apps featuring Nintendo IP

Wow, they're being pushed to the deep end? I didn't think I'd see the day. I'm hoping the games are just bite size, and are a separate thing from their hardware games. And I really hope they don't make crap mobile games like other companies...

I blame their investors with their mobile fetishes

F*ck this.

Casual gaming has done a number on Nintendo sadly.

Nintendo is also introducing a online membership service.

"Nintendo and DeNA also plan to develop an online membership service that is accessible from smart devices, PC and Nintendo systems, such as the Nintendo 3DS portable system and the Wii U home console. The membership service, which is targeted to launch in the fall of 2015, will be built on DeNA's extensive experience and capabilities in online membership services"

I do too... I'll admit there is money to be made on the mobile side of things, but as long as they still bring their A games to their consoles, I won't hate them for doing mobile games too much.

Fixed, with 3 straight years of loss  and rather poor sales of their home console and handheld outside of Japan its not surprising investors would push for mobile which is a massive market where a simple game like Puzzle and Dragons can make millions a day.

Blame casual consumers and their fickle tastes. They ditched Wii Sports/Brain Training and that's forced Nintendo to have to go down this road.

"only new original games optimized for smart device functionality will be created, rather than Wii U/3DS ports."

Well, with mobile games, they are either a money maker or a money sink... The issue is that no one knows which games will be successful and which games will flop... Just because a well known IP can go on mobile doesn't mean it will be successful or even close since everything is just so random

And while I get that they lost money, I doubt going towards mobile will gain them money in the long run since putting IPs in mobile will essentially get them out of their handheld business if they actually decide to release some actual IPs on there thats worth caring about which of course has to be less than $5 or else no one would buy it
