Tropical Freeze, but I also love Xenoblade's soundtrack!

Xenoblade has the best soundtrack of all time (yeah) but Dankey Kang is right up there. Absolutely fantastic music.

DK tropical freeze, but its close,

There's not much that beats the feeling I got when hearing DK Country Returns' music at E3 a couple years ago during its anouncement, but... Xenoblade Chronicles' soundtrack is one of them

Hiroyuki Sawano. This doesn't even begin to be an actual contest.

Wrong Xenoblade.  The original Xenoblade had multiple groups and composers working on it, but not Sawano.

Of course the people here vote for the most niche game. The amount of misinformation here is pretty funny like Sawano supposedly being the composer for xc.

I'm not voting as I didn't play either of the two but.. I don't see a single-layered game such as DK beating an epic RPG at soundtracks. Xenoblade probably has the larger diversity of music from joyful and funny through magical and mysterious to dark and depressing.

DK is not a single-layered game at all.

The music variety is sort of limited like the game's theme itself. It sounds amazing but it doesn't keep up in variety with a game of Chrono Cross' caliber which I assume what Xenoblade is..

JRPG's typically have their funny, tragic, epic and magical moments whereas DK does not enjoy the same range of expression. Its missing the "mood-swings" Sure, its music is diverse to some extent but it is constrained by the game's limited themes as far as impressions go.

I admit I was too judgemental in saying a single-layered game can't beat a multi-layered one... for instance Shadow of The Colossus doesn't have the diversity of a JRPG yet its OSTs completely thrash 90% of JPRG's. Maybe because it was epic and melancholic, two themes I'm a total sucker for! so yeah..

I'd actually say DK does have tunes that are upbeat and happy, others that are melancholy, others that are goofy, others that are dark and intimidating, etc.

Not as far as impressions go though. Looking forward to playing the game when I get my Wii U later this year. I just don't see it being as broad in expression as a well-made JRPG lol it seems too free and funky. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

In most levels it is, but it also has themes like these:
