No. The N3DS has games that won't be backwards compatible and there is no way to upgrade/accessories the curred 3DS to play those games. So for NPD purposes it's a new console with backwards compatibility.


The NDSi is an upgraded DS that also includes a camera and games that are not backwards compatible to the Nintendo DS

The DSi and DS are technically considered the same console.

 

How is the n3DS and 3DS and 2DS any different?

Your making a mistake, N3ds is a 3ds. And Vita TV is already combined with the Vita

My reaction:
Delighted the top 3 were undertracked on here. Good for the industry.
I'm also delighted the ps4 won the home console battle despite a full month at a 50$ higher price.

No its pretty good. We all know WiiU isnt going to be big. We (most) already excepted that like with the vita. If Vita hits 50k+ in a month, that to me is outstanding.

It isn't. It wouldn't be bad for Vita either, you know. Just like 50M LT for PS4 would be bad, but for Wii U it would be pretty good.

We have no idea whether the Vita TV and Vita are combined or not. Sony barely mentions anything about the Vita when NPD numbers arrive, and in the past they have combined Ps vita and Psp to disguise shipment numbers.

So to answer the question; yes they should, but we have no idea if they are or not, unless I am missing something.

Hardware should be counted by generation, it's still the 3DS generation. Both DS and PSP last gen had multiple revisions that improved the hardware slightly, giving the handhelds more ram etc, no one had issues with them being grouped as a generation. DSi had exclusive titles, PSP Go couldn't play some titles in it's generation due to it's digital only nature and some UMD titles not being available to download. I think the only people clamoring for them to be counted separately are devout Playstation fans that want the PS4 to be on top every month this year, even though the results for PS4 this month has already wonderful enough. Nintendo will probably only win this month this year, so let them be the King for a month guys :P PS4 will most likely return to the top in March.
