Simple thing is the game has a publisher. If they had to do the game without any help then it would be indie.

I see your point, but MS is kinda just throwing money at them for an exclusive. There are a lot of games that MS, Sony, or some other publisher threw money at that are called indie. At this rate we could probably argue games with support from Kick Starter aren't indie either, because they had help!

In my opinion, Ori is indie because it was developed by an indie studio and I assume its still owned by that indie studio.

Just wondering do you guys think Killer Instinct is an indie game too? Its the same situation in terms of IP ownership, developer and publisher.

Are you certain MS own's the IP? I thought MS owned Dust: An Elysian Tale, but that clearly isn't the case.

Again, if a publisher gave financial help but do not own the IP I generally consider it an indie title. Especially if the publisher is just financial help for exclusivtiy and not creative control. That's why I compare it to Kick Starter.

Totally different situation. We're certain MS owns that IP and MS played a significant role in the development of that game.
