I love the aspect ratio, much more visibility to the sides than in the usual narrow fov shooter. I haven't had any problems so far with visibility in gun fights. Yes it does restrict your view a bit while peeking over boxes while hiding. That's cheating anyway...

I would have liked more interaction with the world as well. More newspaper articles (with the ability to zoom in, even om my projector they're a strain to read) and more items to find. I enjoyed all the little extras in Portal 2, that kind of stuff.

I'm enjoying the gun fights so far. It's nothing new but the guns feel right and are fun to play with. I hope I get my hands on that fire gun again, it got yanked away but a cut scene just after I got it in the docks :/

Genre: Cinematic adventure imo.

I can just stand here for 10 minutes to watch the various ships sail by and the cranes go about their business. Level of detail is amazing.

The horizontal visibility was great. But there were many instances where I would have traded those black bars for greater vertical visbility, especially when firing from behind cover. In general, I think the aspect ratio speaks to the greater problem of The Order, which is a deep focus on cinematic presentation at the expense of playability, for lack of a better word.

I totally agree about the guns. I've played more shooters than I care to admit, and the guns in The Order are some of the most interesting and enjoyable weapons I've used in a long time. I'm a sucker for revolvers and carbines, though :)

I agree there's a disconnect between the art team and gameplay. Instead of playing to it's strength of the expanded horizontal view, we get the standard vertical gun fights. I just passed the burning warehouse section with an annoying grenade launcher on top of a bridge. The visibility behind boxes could be easily fixed by tweaking the camera position in cover. There is no need to show half the box. Visibility while hiding next to a wall is great though, yet instead of more of that, the levels are full of the standard chest high wall furniture again.

I love the revolvers too, and that tri-shot shotgun is brutal. I can understand the frustration that comes from it. These guns would be fun to use in an online match, and I don't even like playing online.

Really good review, there are really only two things I disagree with.

1. I had no issue with the black bars, I just never really noticed them and having them freed up resources. Not saying all games should do it, but it seemed to work fine in this case.

2. I would be really disappointed if they just flat out dropped the cinematic focus for the sequel. That's taking the easy way out in my opinion. I think they should just make the parts of the game you actually play longer, and give you more opportunities to learn about the world and the characters in it.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

I'm pretty convinced that 1887 is going to be a far better game.
For a company that has only done psp games in the past, it's pretty amazing what they did in such short time.
Now they have all the art assets, sound effects, characters, etc in the books, and it should give them a significant edge while working on the next one.
I'm pretty confident the next one is going to leave a lot of people wanting to play it.

2.5 out of 4 equals 62.5% versus a 65% Meta.

Mods are anti-Sony confirmed.

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

It was infact too short and i didnt really like the ending (it just kinda ended, wth was that about??)

dem graphics doe, it literally looks like CGI in some scenes its crazy. Best looking game iv ever seen.

I agree with the review. Sadly, graphics are the last thing I look for in the game, so it had much more negatives than positives for me.
And the story just kinda petered out by the end, cannot say I look forward to learning more.
I will be sure to skip the sequel, unless they significantly increase the amount of gameplay. And they need to add co-op.
