They are both good for really different things.

Although, if your game is in first person, please don't put in platforming. First person platforming is literally the worst...

I think I`d say mostly 3rd person, but 1st person can work well at times if designed well. It never bothered me in games like Shin Megami, and I loved the games I played from that series.

Third-person for both. I acknowledge of course that there are some games out there that use first-person in interesting ways that actually make me appreciate it. But that should be a niche, not a standard.

Studios like Bethesda's use it for lazy animation and combat mechanics.

I'd say I prefer the 3rd person perspective because I kinda get confused in first person, I feel everything is too close and I can't see exactly where the character is walking...just imagine a platformer in first person...I wouldn't be able to play something like that XD
