That's actually great. The temporal reprojection on SF actually didn't looked much worse than the regular 1080p campaign.

120Hz is not 120fps



This got me thinking. In a few years we'll have a lot of tech that's awesome and not too expensive. My next TV in 3 years will hopefully be a 55" curved OLEE 4k TV. If that was priced under 2k I'd be a happy man. Likewise all this VR stuff should drop in price very quickly.



Oh boy... they are really going to go ahead with this... its going to be interesting to see how it does compared to the PS move.

FPS is frames per second, and Hz is frequency.  Hz can be used in replace of FPS correctly, though FPS isn't necessarily Hz.  

And the headset can display 120 fps because it has a 120 Hz display.


Well youre kinda right but is morpheus going to be used for 3D gaming?

Many TVs are advertised with super high refreshrates, but they only accept 60Hz input, meaning the rest comes from calculating interpolated frames and backlight strobing - that's why I understand why people are cautious, but luckily Sony has immediatly addressed that by stating they are supporting/encouraging native 120fps with Morpheus.

Richard Marks Well, there are two ways it’s used: one is getting the motion data at the last possible moment to lower latency; and the other is if you have a 60 frames per second game and you want to display it on a 120 frames per second panel. Reprojection fills in the frame gap in-between in real time using new motion data.

SY: On a 60-frame game, you want the frame in between but you don’t have the time to render a new frame. But you can slightly move it – when you move your head this way, you move the image slightly that way…

RM: It’s taking real data – the rendering started before, but it’s just not ready to show that next frame yet, so it needs to display another 120Hz frame. It has the motion data, takes the old frame and projects it forward. It’s not exactly a pure horizontal shift, it’s more than that, but that’s the idea.

That's what all VR headsets do.  

Traditional 3D content uses glasses to filter out light somehow, thus ensuring that each eye gets different information.  This different information is used to give two different perspectives which tricks the brain into seeing depth.  

VR works that the TV is so close to the eye that each eye can only see one perspective without additional glasses or the like.  This gives depth to the reality that you are seeing.  One of the important aspects to VR, along with motion tracking.

I'm not sure what you are getting at with the 3D comment.  If you're thinking the frame rate will be halved because it is 3D, that is incorrect.  

Sony already said there was a native 120 fps game.  


I get it now then but the refresh rate will have nothing to do with how much frames per second is being displayed on the actual screen. The reason i asked if its 3D gaming is cause 120Hz is ideal for 3D displays.



I'm worried more a bout price than technical aspects at this point

Really though, they're not that different.. the big similarity being that you must wear it, like the glasses on a 3dtv. 3d tv is not very successful, because people don't really care much for wearing lightweight glasses... imagine having to wear this heavy, big thing. As it is currently, I can't see it selling more than a million or two.

As far as the virtual boy, just put a tripod on it, and bam! It's a virtual boy. Lol.

Have you ever used a virtual boy? Cause it sucked it was horrible and there was nothing virtual about it they just called it that. It was basically shoving yor face really close to a gameboy.

3D never took off because it wasn't even that great. Some movies it was ok and the rest did it for a few mins of the movie and that's it so it's pointless. The funny thing is this is just the begining I've heard from people who've used the latest model and  he was blown away. This is the future and that much is clear to me and it's why every company is jumping on it right now. These people are using it and realizing this is something that is only going to get better and better. Right now were basically just getting beta test versions.
